A new way of drafting and building a franchise...

First, I love the Humphries pick...and to all that keep saying that he got eaten alive by Ray...hold on.

He actually kept ray in check most of the game. When the game got desperate and Florida had to throw is when Ray got the better of DJ...and that QB should have stepped up. That Florida O was bad.

Kudos for the Golden pick...he was the last OLB talent on the board and would have been gone at 3...Johnson pick was a great fit, although, I was on the Peterson bandwagon. Gunter has a tenacity and drive. Riddick, Nelson and Christian...sure. I remember questioning John Brown, Andre Roberts, Greg Toler etc...

I like this draft and I understand that we are not use to this kind of draft. New England has drafted like this for ages...players that fit the system and not just the highest rated guys.

Lastly, we got better today(last few days) boys and girls.

I think a lot of the picks came out of nowhere and were picked earlier than expected. That put the board in a WTH? are they doing mode.

After hearing about the players and why the team chose them it makes more sense.

I still think we could done some things differently, but I'm not a GM

Draft came across as if BASK truly believe they will be competing for a SuperBowl this year and potentially the next few years so they selected guys with high upside and hope they develop within the next 2-3 years.

Except for a few picks, that I believe they feel will contribute right away. The common theme was the player they appeared to want was selected a few picks prior.

I am pretty sure that had Palmer played all season we would have been playing for....and very likely winning....a Championship last season.....two more wins and we had home field throughout.... Cards are very hard to beat at home....

add D-Weed to that mix..... that team could have been deadly if all the pieces had fallen in place.

Until they prove otherwise I am on board with BASK. 21-11 after taking a team that was 5-11 and a hot mess from the year before. Everyone questioned installing Todd Bowles as DC and now he is the HC of the Jets. This is just one example of good decisions made by them. Not every decision has worked out but then it doesn't for any team. They had this team 9-1 until the wheels fell completely off due to injuries. They seem to be running this team in a very similar manner the Patriots run theirs. Last time I looked they have been pretty successful.

Little Davis, I am right there with you on this draft. We did get better with this draft, and BA was already happy with the state of the team after free agency.

True---we appeared to lose targeted players several times by teams jumping our picks. That happens to every team though. The good part is that we had enough scouting knowledge to have set our board up to take advantage even when that happened to us. I think the best example of that is losing two edge rushers right in front of us in Rd. 1, and still capitalizing on it with DJ Humphries who can play either side of our O-line with his great feet. He looks to be the piece of the puzzle that completes our O-line two deep across the board. That is a very comforting thought for me anyway.

SK also showed some deft footwork of his own by trading up to take the kid from Delaware State. Proof of that pudding was the call he received from another GM right after saying that they were going to pounce on him but Keim beat them to the punch.

Obviously the key to this season is just like last season was-----keep Palmer upright.
I think our 1st round pick will help greatly in doing just that. I have a feeling that the constant jabber and frustration of not having a decent O-line is finally a thing of the past for us Red Bird fans.

This draft to me reminded me of the Seahawks drafts of the last 2-3 years. Bad position to pick. Drafting high on "our" evaluations. Bunch of guys I never really heard of.

Kiem will end up being a genius or an idiot. Likely some of both when looking at the class overall.

I dont buy into pass rush help after first 15 picks. Just doesnt happen that often. BUt we loaded up front 7 and blocking on O. If David Johnson is half as good as he looks in pads we got something.
