College football has lowered itself to the equivalent of a beauty pageant. It's all about the logo, superficial "what if's", and hypothetical chances. Hardly anybody schedules many meaningful OOC games anymore. Hell, even the unamimous top 2 teams this year haven't played a schedule that clearly warrants a #1 status. What is accomplished on the field has become almost second to how good your argument is compared to another team's shorcomings and the quality of your cat-fighting skills. Teams, media and fans now build support for their cause mostly by tearing down the credibility of other teams and conferences. College football fans have become ugly, like an episode of the Jerry Springer show.

Those who like the BCS system claim it's great because each game is so vitaly important. But in reality, the BCS rankings now hinge mostly on pre-season public opinion and scheduling. The two most important factors in a season becomes 1) getting the lucky bounces to go your way in the few actual games played that matter, and 2) at what point in the season you get a loss.

College football proves why the NFL is king. We need a complete overhaul of the BCS system.

Get rid of the Pre Season polls. Don't start until Week 5.

TV would never go for that though....that's how they advertise the early games. #8 West Virginia at #24 Texas A&M

That really is the problem. They start out with a preconceived notion and it's never totally factored out of the final rankings.

If you start the season ranked lower, it's impossible to get all the way to the top, and if you start ranked high, you stay high barring a total collapse.

Glad to see other people feeling the same way. ;)
It's all about how pretty you are. lol :D

Case in point...what if Rutgers and Boise St. started the season #1 and #2 in the AP and Coaches polls? I wonder where they would be today? Who would tune in for a National Champ Game with Rutgers against Boise St. Even if those two teams deserved it...sadly our culture would not like it and less likely to watch. Sorry advertisers...

I tell ya where college football would be if that were the case. In the crapper. It's all about precerption and what sells.

What about BYU and Kansas St. in years past? Gee-zus those two teams used to get SCREWED come BCS "at-large" time. Man!

It's not the NFL. That's the main thing going against it. Who cares when you don't have a real champion? Other than the players and the students/grads of course...

I only watch college ball to scout who I will take in my keeper fantasy league in the NFL.

Herbstreit voted Boise at #20 this week, and voted BYU at #19

We are one of only 2 undefeated teams, and we still get little respect. I think we have enough to get into the BCS though.

College football is not really about football, it is all about the top teams keeping the end-of-season payouts.

The BCS is horrible and I can't even be interested in the holiday bowl games.

I haven't followed it for probably 5 years.

Perhaps Congress should step in here and take a closer look at what's going on..........

Correctamundo. Isn't it great how a 42-39 game between OSU/Michigan is labeled an "instant classic between two great teams" but a 44-34 game between Louisville/West Virginia is dismissed as two teams with bad defense who have no business playing in a national title game.

WVU lost that game to UL, but I truly believe OSU or Michigan would have a lot of trouble dealing with WVU on a neutral field.

Little respect? It's because you don't compete in the Bud-Lite, Chevy, Frito Lay league. Your a college team. Not pro. You see, college football is not really "college football". There are two different leagues of college athletics these days. The haves (BCS) and have-nots. Perhaps it's time we seperate the two into two different formats. Otherwise my grandchildrens' grandkids are gonna see the same 'ole same 'ole. Maybe I should just include this list of predictions in my "will".

Family...even though there are over a hundred universities competing in Division I college football, here within this list reside the next 100 years of College Football National Championship teams:

Ohio St.
Notre Dame
USC
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Texas
Florida
Miama
Florida St.
Tennessee

Please become a fan of one of these teams even though you have no affliation with those teams so that you will watch the games with great excitment and purchase the goods that are sold from the commercials you witness each bowl season. Your "brainwashed" mind will help keep the American economy going for years to come.

The 5th BCS game is really only so a team like Boise won't sue the system and the bigger boys can still keep their money.

Since 1999 here is the top 10 winning programs in D1:

1 Boise State 84-16
2 Oklahoma 84-18
3 Texas 83-18
4 Miami-Florida 78-20
5 Virginia Tech 78-22
6 Ohio State 76-23
7 Georgia 75-25
8 Southern Cal 74-24
9 Michigan 74-24
10 Florida State 73-25

Beleive me, I know the big boys get more love than the little guys. LSU has two losses and stays at #9 in the BCS. If we get in, ad we can win, it will do a lot for the little guys.

I'm pulling for ya Boise!

Until Boise earns the right to be considered a legitimate power player, they don't deserve a major BCS bowl. Hear me out.

When Bobby Bowden went to Florida State, they were a football nothing. Bobby scheduled road games at Notre Dame and a bunch of other power schools and started beating them ON THE ROAD!

Joe Paterno did the same thing at Penn State.

Boise State hasn't even attempted to play the big boys.

When it comes to this system, you are right about playing tougher competition. With our conference, we can only play who is on our schedule, and hope our out of conference schedule.

Our big wins this year are Oregon State (Beat USC) Utah on the road Held them to three points, and Hawaii (Who has only lost ot Auburn and us)

Fresno has had a rough year and usually is a lot better, and we play Nevada this Sat.

We lost to Boston College by 6 last Bowl Game and Louisville by 4 in the 2004 Liberty Bowl. Before that we beat TCU, Iowa State, and Louisville. Georgia Last year was rough. We got beat and found ourselves trying to overcome 6 turnovers by our QB alone.

We have had trouble scheduling people for a home game and even road games. We have Oregon and Washington in the next few years. There is rumors we have a big game in the works for next year.

Ever year there are only a few teams that can play a season without a loss. There's actualy been some people who way we shold have a shot at Ohio State.

It's clear we have outgrown out conference, and need to step up a notch. I'm not sure if the Mountain West would be an upgrade.

Question Skkorp, If we make to to a BCS game and win, does that mean we deserve a shot in future years? Or will people make exscuses about the team we played?

So much is riding on how we do when we get there. So many teams are hoping for us to get into the BCS that want a shot someday.

Looking forward to your game against USC this weekend.

If Boise State plays in a BCS game and wins, it will be their launching pad to greater things. Hope they make it.

Why does College football have to be the NFL?

You have your NFL, your steriods, your Fantasy football loosers., your "resting players at the end of the season, Worthless Superbowl that is more of a beauty pagent than anything.

Why can't college and the NFL just be different? Why do they have to be the same?
