A-Rod to have surgery. Do the D'Backs trade Tracy to New York?

A-Rod could be out up to nine weeks and who knows how he will play after that. He will need more surgery in the offseason. I think the Diamondbacks should see if the Yankees have any interest in Tracy.

Tracy would have to play third there which he was never great at and with his injuries he'd likely be even worse, why would the Yankees want him? Furthermore what do you want in return from the Yankees thats realistic? Im not sure what the Yankees farm system is like, but the D'backs outfield is crowded and set, their starting pitching is terrific, the infield seems set, etc. You wanting to move Tracy for bullpen pieces or something?

I think the D'backs are likely set with their roster and just have to hope that guys like Upton, Reynolds, Young and Drew can continue to grow and have one or two of them blow up and have huge years.

I rad a rumor that CLE would be willing to unload Andy Marte to the Yankees if they are looking for a replacement for A-Rod.

I don't think NYY would give up much for him, I would hope for Kennedy but I don't see them giving him up.

The reason I mentioned this was because last week on WFAN they mentioned Tracy. They said Texeiria played some third base in the minors and Chad could play third, first and DH. The new ballpark will have the same dimensions as the old one so lefties won't have too far to hit it to right for a homer.

As for a return player or players, don't know but I know the Diamondbacks would love to get rid of Tracy's contract. I like Chad but you never know how long his knee will last. I don't think the front office will be happy paying Byrnes $10 million a year to be a 4th outfielder.

It should be interesting to see if anything comes out of this.

I think that the problem with Chad Tracy is that his value to the Diamondbacks is larger than his actual trade value. The Yankees (or any other team for that matter) would want to compensate the Diamondbacks based on how Tracy played last season, where as many in the organization feel that he can perform more like he did in 2005 and 2006 now that he's finally healthy again.

Certainly they won't, they made a huge mistake. But if they moved Tracy they'd almost certainly have to stick CoJack back at first and Byrnes back in Left. That would mean CoJack would be playing a position he doesn't like, and isn't particularly good at.

I think its a tough situation, but just standing pat is probably best for now.

Why is everyone wanting to get rid of Chad?

He is not that expensive, plays a decent first, and the alternative is not as good.

Stupid thing to do

Because his defensive play teeters between lousy and horrible? Or has he been better this spring? Have not seen any games yet.

At 3rd, yes. At first, he is decent. But then again, that is the description of most first basemen.

I don't see the point in dumping Tracy for nothing. The Yankees probably wouldn't give much at all for him and we can still use him. There's nothing wrong with having a deep bench, especially in the NL. If the trade deadline comes around and Tracy's value is up and we aren't looking like a contender, then maybe it would make sense to get a couple solid prospects for him or something. But, I'm expecting the team to be in contention come trade deadline time this year and I think a healthy Tracy gives us an even better shot at a WS run.
