The Plan for the Cardinals Draft and Free agency:

Goes as follows

In a move that fools everyone(even us) on draft day

The Arizona Cardinals Trade:
2003 1st round #6
2004 1st rounder

To Benglas For:
#1 overall pick in 2003 draft

With the first pick in the draft the Arizona Cardinal select: WR CHARLES ROGERS MSU

Charles Rogers is an elite game breaking wide reciever who has everything you could ask for in a wide reciever. He has only played 2 full season and imagine what jerry sullivan could do with this player. He should turn into a top 5 reciever in the NFL. He is a solid person and really has no weaknesses to speak of. The Cardinals need a #1 reciever and there are none to be had in free agency. A. Johnson is way hyped up becuase of athletisicm but i really feel he will be a bust becuase his hands are only mediocre. The cardinals know this as well. I feel there are no other sure #1 recievers in this draft. Charles Rogers is worth it.

With the Cardinals 2nd Round pick the select:

C Jeff faine

Cards opt to play it safe here and select faine who should be an excelent starting center for a decade

With Remaining free agency money cardinals sign:
Vonnie Holliday
E. Smith
Todd mcbride
chris claiborne
Martay Jenkins
Remaining cards free agents:

So the Roster goes as so

QB
Blake
Mccown
Parson

RB
Shipp
Smith
anderson

FB
Hodgins
mackovika
busk

TE
F jones
S Bush

WR
#1 Charlers Rogers
#2 Jason Mccadley
#3Martay jenkins
#4 Kevin Kasper
#5 Gilmore

LT
Shelton
Fina

LG
kendall
dishman

C
Faine
Starkey

RG
Davis
Roundtree

RT
Clement
Garcia

And the Defense

DE
Vonnie Holliday
Fred Wakfield

DT
Barron Tanner
Russel davis

DT
Wendell bryant
Marcus Bell

DE
Vanden bosch
Dennis Johnson

Weak LB
RAY thompsn
levar fisher

Middle LB
Mickinnon
Claiborne
Woods

Strong LB
Claiborne
(fisher)
Darling

CB
Starks
hill

CB
Barret
Mcbride

SS
Wilson
lucas

FS
Jackson
lucas

Then next free agency all that will be needed is another starting CB, possibly a starting DT or LB and resign their own free agents.

A Solid Roster Top to Bottom with depth, a young core, and veteran leadership. A team that will play with heart.

Mccown and blake will compete for the #1 QB spot but i think blake will be the starter for his entire contract and play his best years in AZ with this o-line, running game and talented recievers.

This defense was solid last year until all of the majory injuries hit and will only be improved with the addition of vonnie holliday who can get to the passer the additions of mcbride, darling, claibrone and jackson will all be solid and help this team win. The defense is still very young and still has much room for improvement. The pass rush was adressed with holliday and will also improve with young players bulking up and gaining experiance though it may not be where some want it to be.

So there it is the plan to save the Arizona Cardinals.

Clairborne would require our 1st round pick in this years draft so that is not an option. Other than that, I think we have other glaring needs besides WR, Holliday would be an upgrade, but would not solve our DL problems

If the Cards feel they have to draft a replacement for DB this is the best scenario. I don't think moving to #1 would cost us that much though. The Bengals would love to get out of the #1 slot and they player(s) they want would still be there at 6. If that is the going price for the Bengals pick than I say we just say no.

I also think if we move to the #1 pick in the draft we take Suggs.

The Cards will still be able to get a great value for their #1 pick and have plenty of positions that can use the talent upgrade.

As bad as our D is I certainly hope our first 2 picks in this draft aren't on O. I understand that your plan does a good job of shoring up the D, but some top notch young talent is still needed.

Word!

Very interesting scenario though, and lot of thought and effort. Good work!

Although getting Rogers would be nice, our DLine still has little pass rush, just double Bryant and Holiday.

If we move to #1 we better take Suggs.

Too Much for Too Little

- You want us to surrender next year's #1 to get Rogers.

- You're assuming we're going to pick up Holliday.

- You're assuming we're going to sign Clairborne

- We'd still be exposed at CB opposite Starks.

- And we'd still have no one (other than the potential of Dennis Johnson) who can rush the passer off the edge.

- And we're expecting either Tanner, Bell or Davis to get the job done inside next to Wendell.

Other than that - it's pretty good.

I really don't think that the Cardinals move up at all. If anything they would move down if there was a team that would trade with them, but with the money problems involved with high draft choices, no team wants to move up. The Cardinals are sitting in a great position at #6. They are going to get one of the predicted impact players without paying a top 5 price. JMHO based on Cardinal history and what I have been reading for the past year since the last draft.

We may not be able to get a "star" receiver in FA but we should be able to pick up some competition for what we have, re-sign Martay for speed, Sanders for a possesion receiver, and hope somebody steps up out of the rest of the group. I would NEVER trade 2 first rounders for a WR, NEVER! We need a pass rush people!

I posted something similar on another thread regarding the Drafting of Suggs. Trade our #1 the 6th overall & maybe a 4th rd pick in 2003 (or maye they'd be silly enough to somehow accept T.Jones??)to Cincy, plus our #1 in 2004 , for #1 overall in 2003 & Cincy's #2 in 2004. If we sign Holliday & draft Suggs, that immediately makes us at least a top 5-10 defense. If everything works out on the offensive side of the ball, & we field a competent unit. Our #1 in 2004 would be in the 20's anyway. We would of course have 2 # 2's in 2004.. If they want Suggs as much as I do  they're gonna have to take some chances.....I would'nt move up to take anyone in the Draft except Suggs...jmo

I agree....isn't that strange?

:D

I would only trade up for Suggs, and no other player in the draft. IMO, he is the single best player in the draft, and the rest are a notch below him (at least in immediate impact for us). I don't think that we should trade a future 1st rounder, but I would give up at least a second this year, plus a third next year.

I think if we can get Suggs, we get him at any cost. I'd give up our #1 & #3 to get him plus maybe a pick next year.

If we had a pass rush, our secondary WILL get the job done.

Hey ~Krang that's cool!!!!  as far as trading our future #1. If we by the graces of GOD smell the playoffs, or even go 9-7, Our #1 pick will be in the ranges of 17-24??? If we get their 2nd rd pick (& the are the bengals) that could be 33rd - 40th still able to get a talented player that could hopefully fill a need & be a starter.

I think that some people are assuming too much in thinking that we're going to get Holliday or Claiborne. Claiborne's trying to move out of a loser, why would he want to be a Card? Holliday is shopping or offer around the league, and obviously doesn't want to wear Cardinal red.

I'm not sure there's a player in the league besides Mike Vick right now that's worth two #1s. Even Suggs. And definately not a WR.

The thing about building an offense-first plan or team with the Red Birds is that there's really no foundation for it. We have a defensive-coordinator coach, and our O-Corrdinator has never been more than a position coach and teacher. It's possible that Sully could totally fail as a co-ordinator, be way over his head with game planning and management, and could resign at the end of the season, or ask for a demotion. If we have a D-mastermind in the making at the head spot, why not help him out by giving him some personnel that's a little better than third-stringers or practice-squadders like Fred Wakefield, Russel Davis and Barron Tanner?

Kerouac9......... very true statements. Even if we don't sign Holliday, Suggs is the closest thing to the real deal.(We must have him) I too would have liked to see a talent infusion, instead of some of the very questionable re-signings we've had from Mgt. WE would'nt be giving away 2 # 1's because, we'd be getting their's at #1 overall...Outside of david Boston & L Davis our #1 selections have not been too great anyway. Strictly hypothetical ....but I would'nt mind it one bit if they'd agree to give up their 2nd round pick in 2004. :thumbup:Football.........Start the freakin draft already!!!!!!!!

You're taking a HUGE risk giving up next years #1 to move up 5 spots, BUT I would definately consider it for Suggs, not just because he's the best player in the draft but he's also our greatest need. How often does that happen? It shouldn't take next years #1.

LB Claiborne = LB Johnny Rutledge

They are 2 position failures. Each was tried at OLB and MLB and failed.

Claiborne also has a tendency to get fat, indicating poor work habits. I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays in the NFL again as a starter.
