The national honors continue to roll in for Monterey senior Aaliyah Chavez.
The No. 1-rated women's basketball recruit in the class of 2025 was named a finalist for Gatorade National Player of the Year on Thursday, along with Colorado's Sienna Betts and Oregon's Jazzy Davidson. Each earned Gatorade's POY award for her respective state.
The announcement comes a week after Chavez received Naismith Player of the Year. She was a Naismith All-American as a junior. Chavez also earned McDonald's All-American status and will compete in the showcase game April 1 in Brooklyn, New York.

Betts and Davidson are each committed to UCLA. Chavez will make her decision at a ceremony March 25. She recently wrote in SLAM magazine her top three schools are Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech.
Chavez averaged 34.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.2 blocks while leading Monterey to its first state championship since 1981. The Plainsmen finished 37-5 overall.
