A month from now, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter will likely be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL draft. As more and more mock drafts continue to be updated as we inch closer and closer to the start of the draft, Carter is gaining even more momentum as one of the first couple of players off the board by draft analysts.
Joining in the mock draft fun this week is CBS Sports NFL writer Pete Prisco, who shared his first mock draft of the draft season. Prisoc waited to share a mock draft until after the start of free agency to get a better read on team needs. But even with free agency in full bloom, there appears to be a consistent landing spot for Carter in the draft.
Prisco predicts the Cleveland Browns will use the number two overall pick to select Carter. This has been a pretty common draft pick projection for Carter this offseason.
"They will consider quarterback here, but I think they pass and take an elite edge rusher," Prisco says in his mock draft. "Pairing Carter with Myles Garrett will give them bookends for the next five years. That matters in a division with Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow."
Prisco projects Miami quarterback Cam Ward to be the first pick of the draft by the Tennessee Titans. According to Prisco, Carter will be followed by Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanaders to the New York Giants with the third pick.
Prisco also has Penn State tight end Tyler Warren going in the first 10 picks. Prisco's initial mock draft slots Warren to the New Orleans Saints with the ninth overall pick in the draft.
The NFL draft will be held from April 24 to April 26.
