Why aren't teams satisfied with Abdur-Rahim? I like his game.
They have Randolph, so Abdur-Rahim is expendable. Neither of them really can play SF at all, so one of them had to go.

not to mention that he really hasn't contributed to a winning team ever. that says A LOT about his game. the only winning team he's played on is the blazers last year, and he was anything but a focal point for them.

that's true

I don't think Shareef Abdur-Rahim is worth the money he's making, but he is a good player. He's about like Antwawn Jamison. He's a good score. He's pretty good on the boards. He's a below-average defender at power forward.

I'm baffled the Mavs didn't make a play at this guy. If there was ever a player that had Mavs written all over him, it's Shareef. Guy's silky smooth scorer from the 4. Maybe if he got a dorky Euro haircut ...

Then again, I can't imagine anyone nicknamed "Reef" not playing for the Blazers.

I think this is just a case of trading unhappy players.

The deal makes a lot of sense from the Portland perspect. Szczerbiak gives Portland a serious outside shooting threat. Derek Anderson at SG shot only 37.6% last season and just 30.5% for three. Szczerbiak shot 44.9% from the field and 43.5% for three.

SAR was terribly upset when the trade to the Nets fell through and threatened to hold out if he wasn't traded. However, I'm not sure this is going to make him any happier. If SAR had a hard time getting minutes in Portand, how is he going to do it playing behind Garnett?

Szczerbiak has a long contract while SAR's contract expires next summer.

BTW, I think this means that the Wolves will match on Hassell.

George, Shareef Abdur-Rahim would not play behind Kevin Garnett. They would simply put KG at small forward in the starting lineup.

PG - Sam Cassell
SG - Latrell Sprewell
SF - Kevin Garnett
PF - Shareef Abdur-Rahim
C - Ervin Johnson or Michael Olowokandi

I don't think this deal will be seriously entertained by these teams. Next season they will be in the same division and there is no sense in doing each other any favors. With the Wolves matching Hassels it gives an indication of that strategy.

They are helping their teams a lot this way. Who cares if they help each other as well? The notion of not trading away players to division rivals is overrated. Maybe when you deal franchise players, but not 3rd or 4th options.

I think teams would prefer to trade outside of their conference, but beyond their top stars I think it is a preference and not a hard and fast rule.

The deal seems to be a question of whether the Kandiman will got to Portland. My guess is that it will happen because the Wolves want to move Wally's contract.
