While I expect the Suns will start doing better when they start playing weaker teams, I'm actually more interested in what the team will look like "next season" whenever that is.

About all that is certain is that Vince Carter will be gone. Beyond that, the roster will be fiddle'd with but there is nothing quite so obvious as the trade for Gortat. After watching Hedo today, it is obvious that he was just the wrong guy for the Suns and not useless as so many claimed.

My projections are just guesses, but I think they make sense.

STARTERS

c -Gortat
PF - Frye
sf - Hill
SF - Dudly
PG - Nash

SECOND TEAM

C - Lopez
PF - Warrick
SF - Childress
SG - Pietrus
PG - Dragic

Deep bench will be Silar and Laval.

Ideally, I'd like the Suns to focus on getting an ultraquick ball handler and defender. One guy I'd like them to look at is Kemba Walker of U Conn. He's a classic Arron Brooks type.
Walker has always had terrific quickness and ball-handling ability, but it's only this year seemingly that he's really learned to use them at all times

---
It's simply impossible for defenders to stay in front of him – both in transition and in the half-court. His aggressiveness with the ball, ability to change speed and direction instantaneously, and phenomenal body control allow him to knife through defenses effortlessly. He's not afraid to drive full steam into the paint and draw contact at the rim, either. He shows great strength and toughness around the basket and is getting to the free throw line at an exceptional rate.

Digging deeper into his film, there are still plenty of instances where Walker's outstanding court vision and creative passing shine through. He's capable of threading the needle to teammates rolling to the basket with bullet passes, finding open shooters on the wing, and making fundamentally-sound entry passes into the post for high percentage looks around the rim.
----

Defense is the part of Walker's game that will raise the biggest question marks from NBA evaluators – not because of his actual defensive ability, but rather his size. Standing somewhere around six-feet and change, Walker will always carry the “undersized” label, even though his height rarely affects him on the offensive end. He'll match up against bigger, stronger, longer point guards in the NBA, which could make things more difficult. To his credit, though, he shows excellent lateral quickness, terrific instincts in the passing lanes and the type of toughness you come to expect from a New York City guard. Nevertheless, there is a bias amongst certain NBA-types against shorter point guards, which must be taken into account.

Dfraft express has Walkter at 6th pick, which NBAdraft.net has him about 10 picks later. My interest in Walker is that he seems to be a lot better suited to deal with the ultra quick point guards that make Dragic look bad. IMHO Dragic would be a decent SG and can play the point as a combo guard against big PG's.

I fear the Suns will need to trade players to move up in the draft, but right now I don't see a lot of hope at getting what is needed in free agency.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I'm comfortable that the Gortat, Lopez, Frye combination will give the Suns as good a center combination as they have had. Warrick leaves a lot to be desired at PF, Silar is a question mark and Laval is even a biggest unknow. Getting a quality PF who can score and rebound would be nice, but this may be a serious challenge.

The other big issue is shooting guard. If they could get someone like Walker, then Dragic can become the SG off the bench. I'm not comfortable with either Childress or pietrus at SG, lthough neither is healthy right now.

Of couse, if there is a strike, it will be an odd year.

I think our next season will involve a few players not currently on the roster. I think this is the last year that either Nash or Hill take the court for the Phoenix Suns unless the league and players come to an agreement on a new CBA. Once Hill and Nash retire, we'll be down to mostly bench players.

Warrick is useless. Make him the new Earl Clark & make him ride the pine.

Lawal (or as you say "Leval") is a better option IMO.

And yea like he said ^^^ lots of uncertainties on this team due to the CBA & everythin.

The Suns definitely need to add a quality PG as much as they need a PF. Dragic has disappointed. The Suns need to go with the BPA that can fill one of these needs with their first pick in the draft. If the quality is there at PG, I wouldn't pass him over.

I'm more hopeful Dragic will get better but I'm skeptical of Warrick becoming more than he is. The problem is that Dragic is a combo guard on a team that needs a pure point guard. He can play defense and certainly score, but doesn't seem to get the offense going. I fear Warrick isn't tough enough for his job.

We are clearly dealing with an odd couple in Nash and Hill. They are still our best starters and so may be around a while baring injuries. The frustrating part is that they minimal trade value but no upside either.

I for one think the players will be more than happy to take a 33% or whatever it is pay cut, and the season will go on uninterrupted :sarcasm:
