Absolutely Annoyed With Selection Process

Honestly....I'm really starting to get ticked at this whole process. It just chaps my hyde at the number of LOYAL Cardinals fans who didn't get selected. I'm talking about people who have had season tix since the beginning, and have NEVER been selected for any Super Bowl. Yet, some yahoo, who joined the bandwagon this year or last year get automatic BCS bid because they layed down a 3 year contract for Club Seats.

A lot of these people NEVER had a single intention of going to the game in Tampa if they were drawn. Their only goal was to go out and make a buck in the name of a pi$$y economy that's got them down. Well, screw you to those that did that I say. Personally, if I couldn't attend, I would have either declined the offer so that another Cardinals fan could go in my place, or I would have sold the tickets at face value to the same individual.

I'm not saying that I'm holier then anyone else here, and I'm happy for those that got selected and are making the financial sacrifices to make the trip down to Tampa. I just think that the league needs to do something in the way of some sort of legal binding contract where they could bring lawsuit against those selling these tickets at outrageous prices. I, for one, would whole hardheartedly sign it, with NO RESERVATIONS!

I know this economy sux....I lost a business back in September and am dealing with the personal credit nightmare that goes along with that. And my 73 year old fathers still battling prostate cancer. It would have been nice to be able to have gone to Tampa with him and enjoy a Super Bowl watching your favorite team whoop up on another unsuspecting victim.. You just never know when the next chance is going to come around.

I'd post this on the cardinals message board, but I'll get in trouble since one of the moderators over there is SCALPING his tickets to the highest bidding DIEHARD Cardinals fan. Guess he figures WE DO THIS TOGETHER meant doing it out of somebody elses wallet!

I would have liked to see things weighted for the long-time ticket holders. Some people (Kelly Young) have been to every Cards home game since 1988.

I am fine with the club stuff, as they used it as a sales tactic to get them all sold prior to opening.

The only people that should even be CONSIDERED for those tickets are 1.) people sat in SDS for all those years and 2.) people that actually knew we were called the phoenix cardinals at one point.

Keep in mind the Cardinals only got 17.5% of the 75,000 tickets (13,125). That isnt that many. I remember there being at least 20,000 season-ticket holders in the closing years at SDS.

I would have liked to see them take 5000 of those tickets and make them available to the 20,000 seat holders based on seniority. Having a 1 in 4 chance would have been nice for the old timers.

I would bet the NFL has allocation rules for that stuff though.

We were told that the lottery was weighted based on # of years as a season ticket holder and number of seats.

I know this wont make you feel better -- but here goes:

regular ticket sales get split 60/40 with the league. For every $1 that you spend on your season tix, the Cards keep $0.60 and gives $0.40 to the NFL, which puts it into a pool and divies it up 32 ways and shares equally.

Club seats (and suites) are kept 100% by the team and isnt shared. So, given the 100% "keep", the 2.5x higher revenue per ticket and the fact that the team can pretty much count on them being there for at least three years --- the team is highly motivated to keep those club seat holders coming back.

What about us peeps who drop thousands of dollars just in airfare to get to Arizona so we can use our season tickets? I've only had ST's for two years but can pretty well guarentee very few people put out as much effort and financial expense to show their loyalty. We came out 6 or 7 times this year and I lost my job back in December of 07!

If we are willing to fly out to Arizona 5, 6, 7 times a year to attend games you can be damn sure we would have showed up in Tampa.

BTW I pack my clothes for the trip in my mint St. Louis Cardinals football dufflebag.

Well I got selected and since I messed up when I moved and didnt update my Cards Season Ticket Holder account, they sent the letter to my old address where my forward has stopped. So I have 3 postal workers (All Cards Fans) trying to catch my letter before it gets returned to the Cards. But the Cards staff told me without the letter I am SOL! Pi$$e$ me off!

I couldnt actually make the trip, but BleedingRed wanted to go and he was gonna buy the tickets from me at Face. I dont want money nearly as much as I want a ton of Cards fans in that stadium giving the Squeelers hell!

Now last year if I got tickets you can bet I would have sold them for the cash. I am a pay check to pay check guy. But no way I would sell them for profit when the Cards are playing in the big game!

Supply and demand folks, the lions share of tickets were sold way before the participants were known it's always that way, it's not a game it's an event.

Yeah, out of the 13,000 tickets, the way I hear it's distributed is about 4,000 to corporate types, 4-5000 for club level types and about 5000 to season ticket holders by weighted balance for # of years.

It is weighted for the long-time ticket holders.

I've had season tickets for 16 years, but only the last 13 were in my name. We have 2 seats, so that's 26 entries. Meanwhile, someone who buys a block of 8 seats per game since moving into the new stadium has 24 entries.

Assuming 55,000 fans for 3 years, 20,000 fans for 10 years and 5,000 fans for 21 years, you have a total of 360,000 entries for about 2,000 pairs of tickets (these numbers are guesses from the gut). To improve your odds to 50/50 as a 21 year ticket holder, your block needs to be 5 seats, and even then it's only 50/50.

There just aren't very many seats.

Nah there was a time in this country when principles were held much higher than they are today.

When? Going back several generations or more those with money made or were able to circumvent rules.

You bring up a great point, and a point that I was gonna make (until you made it).

I've only been to two games at SDS, but I've had season tickets since prior to moving to AZ. I guess this and what you said are just two more pieces to the equation.

As my momma always said, life's not fair.

Supply and demand folks, the lions share of tickets were sold way before the participants were known it's always that way, it's not a game it's an event.

That's the bottom line right there.

Yup. True, true. Regular season = fan event. Super Bowl = corporate/famous people/etc.

I dunno Shane

i know some might find this hard to beleive -- but this country has gotten far more egalitarian in terms of opportunity than it has been historically

in the past "principles", or "tradition" or something like that was cited in order to afford some un-democratic advantage to the "in crowd"

i will stop here.

Sure the numbers are small. That's why there needs to be a better way then some random drawing and club. How many of those club seat owners suffered and just about died in the ridiculous heat at SDS. If they did, the I believe they earned the ticket. But make them sign a legal binding document that the seat cannot be resold at a profit, and make the tickets available for pickup at the venue prior to the game, non transferable and paid for in AZ. You're much more likely to eliminate the scalpers that way, if they know they have to fly down to Tampa and have a very short time frame to sell the tickets. You sure wouldn't see them on eBay, Craigslist, or Stub Hub if that were the case.

I have heard that from more than one person--

in terms of pure, football fan experience-- the pinnacle is a home conference championship game. Its attended by people who deeeeeeeeeply care about the outcome.

About 65% of the people at the SB dont really care all that much about who wins.

I was a winner I suppose...I am not in club seats..but I was chosen to receive two of the $500 each tickets. For the record - I have had 4 season tickets since 1996.

My update: I went to the cardinals office to pick up my tickets this morning...everyone around me.......was from the club level section....and 100% of them are selling their tickets.

I should have gotten their info to buy their tickets for you folks...but I was not thinking. I was rather disappointed I was the only one who seemed to be actually going to the game.

Another note: no one except for me had the cheap seats you have to physically pick up in Tampa.....they all had the $800 seats which they were handed on site this morning...... They kind of all said...gee...I hope cardinals fans end up with our tickets...most seem to be selling on stubhub..one guy mentioned he was going to sell them to tickets unlimited?

That...is my report. Kind of disappointing that I do not physically have the tickets...but everyone I saw...actually got their tickets. Oh well...I am happy I at least got the chance to buy the two tickets!
