Adam Sandler Signs An Exclusive 4-Movie Deal With Netflix Because 'It Rhymes With Wet Chicks'

http://www.businessinsider.com/netf...-to-a-4-year-movie-deal-2014-10#ixzz3F5m0XpjT

Under the deal announced today, Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions will work alongside Netflix to develop the four films and to premiere them exclusively to members in the nearly 50 countries where Netflix operates. Current studio film commitments are not included in this deal.

In a release announcing the news, Sandler had the following to say: "I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only…. Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks. “Let the streaming begin!!!!”"

I heard the first movie was going to be "You Don't Mess with the Grown Ups, You Just Go With It and Get Blended With Jack and Jill and Little Nicky."

this is pretty fascinating to see how this plays out considering that the overwhelming majority of theater chains refuse to take up theater space with same day home on demand movies.

I cannot imagine how horrible these movies are going to be, especially by movie number 3 when he probably won't give a **** anymore.

Bold predictions! In at least one he is going to be a nice guy with a smokin hot wife but he just can't get himself out of his adolecant ways... and in another he is going to play a nice guy who might be a bit slow, has some strange friends, and lives outside the social norms but non-the-less, he will pull in a smokin hot chick, who at first is turned off by his oddities but then loves him for them.

Oh, also, both these movies will be disasters.

Also, over under on how many of the films will have this guy appear in them?

I think Vegas set the line at 2 1/2

It won't matter. Freaking people go to see his movies even when they suck. He hasn't made a really good comedy is some time but people still keep going to them. If this isn't a success it will be because of poor marketing and people not being able to reconcile seeing a 1st run movie on NETFLIX versus the theater.

DirecTV has already done some of this (i.e. Snowpiercer). Also, when I travel a couple Hotel chains my company uses also have "in theater" movie releases. So, Netflix is taking it a step further with locking up exclusivity.

This might have some sort of lasting impact on Theaters in the long run but I can't see them completely going away. Nothing beats sitting in a theater full of people with a gigantic screen and experiencing a great movie in a crowd. I can't see that ever going away completely.

Can you guys?

No, it won't.

Netflix has some good original shows, but they're not taking away anything from the bigger networks. I think we'll see the same concept here. Crouching Tiger 2 and 4 Adam Sandler movies? Yeah, I think theaters are safe. :)

I stopped seeing Sandler movies a few years ago. I am no prude, but he just puts too much unnecessary raunchiness in his movies. For example, the Hawaiian guy's "jokes" in "50 First Dates". Just real lame unnecessary stuff.

So it appears the Sandler is getting some backlash from the studios. Seems that Warner Bro's backed off a project with him that coincidentally came after his Netflix deal. It appears even SONY has not announced any new projects with Sandler (other than the other 2 in progress) even though they have a contract with him.

It's speculated that SONY is probably going to wait until after his Netflix deal expires and other studios could stay completely away. Sounds retaliatory to me for signing this kind of deal.
