Adrian Wilson has been the one constant over many years for the Cards. He was sort of everyones hero. Is time taking its toll on Adrian? If last weeks game is any indicator I would say it is. He is no longer the all-pro he once was. Has the time come that he should be replaced. Even the greats eventually wear down. Many continue to play when they should have retired. Kurt Warner knew it was time and he left on a high note. Sandy Koufax left baseball when he was one of the best pitchers in baseball. The good teams seem to know when to let the former stars go when they have some value. Emitt Smith had one decent year left when we signed him. Emitt knew it. The Cowboys knew it. I think it is time after this season to look for Wilson's replacement. There is no mercy in professional sports. When your time comes you will leave one way or the other. This from a recent ESPN Blog:

How I See It: NFC West Stock Watch

FALLING 1. Adrian Wilson, Cardinals SS. We've all seen the Cardinals' Pro Bowl strong safety have bad moments here or there. His dominance around the line of scrimmage doesn't always serve him as well in coverage.

But for a few plays every year, I don't see the dominance at the line of scrimmage either. It is not like he is Ray Lewis or something.

He's simply not a SS any longer... just isn't. I say make the guy a fulltime OLB and be done with it.

OLB? Come on now. A SS on a LT. Please.

That is essentially what he does when they have him playing on the LOS and the play is a run.

I must have missed him shutting down the run on those plays. Sacks on gimmicky SS blitzes againt Buffalo do not impress me.

huh? So that is why you put AW at OLB? Great, Coach Mac.

So you are saying he shouldn't see the field at all? He definitely shouldn't be a FS or CB. Should he stay at SS and get burned by TE's over and over again?

Yeah, the analogy was clear, just dumb. No way AW is better than any of those at the position.

You don't know that... I would love to see him play OLB over a period of time. I think he could very well be just as effective (or ineffective :D) as Haggans and Porter...

Yep, that is what I am saying. He is done.

Time for him to not see the field except for maybe goaline situations or 3rd and shorts.

Problem is, there is no one that you could replace him with and say 'he's better than AW.' Rashad Johnson? Only possibility but you can't say that he is better. Ware? Hurt and nope. Adams? Haha. Abdullah, no way.

I would be fine with that, until he has to cover TE's on play-actions. Then, he turns the wrong way or whiffs on the plays. Or throw his hands up in frustration as the guy runs down the field.

I would be willing to give Johnson a chance. Can't be worse.

Go with Johnson and rotate AW with Haggans and Porter... ;)
