WEST LAFAYETTE − Purdue football made a concerted effort to upgrade its secondary through the transfer portal after last season.

In the process, the Boilermakers may have lost one of their promising young safeties.

Sophomore Ty Hudkins posted on social media he'll enter the transfer portal.

Hudkins has three years of eligibility remaining after playing in 12 games on special teams as a true freshman last season, making one tackle.

The three-star safety from Grand Rapids, Mich., committed to Purdue in September 2023 and signed after a stellar high school career at Forest Hills High where Hudkins was twice a first-team all-state selection after helping his team finish with a state runner-up and state championship, respectively, in his final two seasons.
