This film was nominated for a Best Foreign Language Oscar in 2007. It stars Mads Mikkelsen (who most American audiences will know from his role as Le Chiffre in the Bond film Casino Royale) as a man trying to save his orphanage in India.

Mikkelsen plays 'Jacob' who is forced to return to Denmark to meet a rich benefactor in order to secure funding to keep the orphanage from closing. Once there, family secrets are revealed that lead to life-altering changes that he never expected.

Superbly acted, this film really runs the gamut of emotions. If you like quality, character-driven stories then you should definitely rent this one. I give it my highest recommendation.

Recently watched it. Deep film, I thought it was great. It lost out on an Oscar to the best foreign film I've ever seen (The Lives of Others).

I really enjoy these Scandinavian films. Like Renz mentioned, this is definitely for the character-driven film fans.
