Following Player of the Month. That shows consistency.

And, for D-backs fans, he and our three closers, more than any other factors, are the reasons we are where we are.

Also, kudos to our starting staff and most of the pitchers who have had to step in. And our clutch hitting .230 lineups.

AJ may be player of the year so far. At least he is not in a contract year. :sarcasm:

I think that makes it a no-brainer about whether to re-sign Pollock or Goldy if it comes down to that. Pollock is becoming as much a D-backs legend as Goldy. He is one of ours.

And we have Christian Walker, a power hitter 1B, back in the Minors who was not given a chance to acclimate, with one or two at-bats every week and just one start in all the time.

Pollock/Lamb/Souza/Walker could be a solid 3-through-6 heart of the order next season.

As I've said, I love what Goldy has meant to the D-backs, but this is about the future.

It was reported he left a huge amount of money (up to 100 mil) last time. And he bought a new Ford F-150 with it. So maybe we can make it work out keeping both of them. He seems grounded and may stay here for a team friendly deal.

And, of course, we'll know by the end of the season if Goldy is in a slump or is headed downhill.

It's funny how 138 PAs can take away years of injuries and average performance.

Pollock is over 30 and has had 1 season where he has played more than 140 games in an MLB season (with 137 a close second). He's put up a WAR over 3 in only that one season as well (although it was a 6.8 WAR). Pollock has avg 87 games a year over his six year MLB career. That's half a season.

The whole reason he's going to be a FA after this year is because the FO decided it was more financially prudent to go year-to-year arb instead of buying out his years in a guaranteed contract.

I'm not saying all of this to bash Pollock as I wish he were able to stay healthy and think he could have had some really good years had he been healthy. I wish him success.

However, the long term plan of giving him a FA contract into his 30s, especially if he continues to rake this year, seems short sighted on a team that has limited payroll and can't afford to pay another OF'er multiples of millions for not playing in the field (should past predict future)
