Saw this posted on twitter, retweeted by Bob Young. Apparently Al McCoy is undecided if he'll return to call Suns games next season, which would mean this will be his last year with the team.

My earliest Suns memories have McCoy calling the games with Cotton on channel 45 back in the 92-93 season. I hope he's not done but I could tell the last few times I listened to a game on the radio that his excitement and joy isn't there like it was in the past. I wish he'd stay to finish on a better note but that isn't guaranteed next year.

Anyways, felt Al deserved his own thread. He's in the Ring of Honor already also so there's no debate about putting him in there. Not sure what else the Suns could do for him.

I was a teen ager listening to Al when he was a DJ on KRUX in the late 60's, one of the two main valley radio stations for rock and roll (KRIZ being the other at the time).

I was a junior higher listening to McCoy in my bedroom at night doing homework. Those were the Westphal, Gar Heard Suns. It’s really pretty shocking that we are still listening to him in 2019.

It's sad that Al would go out after a year like that, but I don't blame him. It became clear after the Nash era faded he'd never get to call a championship.

I'd love to have a beer with him after he retires and hear his unfiltered opinion on the Sarver era.

Save me a seat but order me a root beer instead.

Also, this would bum me out.

He is still a joy to listen to on the radio, an all time great play by play man. I delight in how much of a homer he is and I also know that when he says the Suns "got away with one" you know the refs really gave us a gift. I know some feel he's starting to slip a bit, but if you compare him to the other announcers around IMO he is still a cut above 90% of em.

Says who? Or is it whom?

When in doubt just stay with "who". It will be right most of the time and when it's wrong you can just tell people you don't believe in the dative case. As to math jokes, everybody loves them as far as I know. Of course, up until now I've never actually had a conversation about math jokes so my sampling is a very, very small "everybody".

Always came off too homerish/whinny for me (maybe that’s Kempton rubbing off on him) but you can’t deny his impact and talent. Does anyone know a timeline of all his partners over the years? I know it’s been Kempton for a while, before that Del Negro and Majerle but I can’t remember who was first...
