The Minnesota Vikings are going full steam ahead with J.J. McCarthy, and with that comes a new chapter in franchise history. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been aggressive in building this roster up through various trades and signings.
All those moves now have one NFL insider, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, believing that the team is entering a new phase of their team building.
"What the willingness to spend at quarterback tells me is that they’re moving to a new phase of the build, where they can legitimately chase a championship. And to do that, I think—and this is just my opinion—the brass felt like it had to give that core that won 14 games a year ago every possible chance to be the best it can be at the most important position on the field. . ."
That core is now coming off the experience and feeling of winning 14 games, something not many teams ever accomplish. They also have the sour taste in their mouth of getting beaten in a one-sided game in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. All of that will work together to have the team playing with an edge and motivation they have never had before.
The team, however, can only go as far as J.J. McCarthy can take them. Thankfully, there isn't a quarterback going into a better situation for his debut season than McCarthy in 2025.
