Ever since reigning AL Gold-Glove third baseman Alex Bregman signed with the Red Sox for a three-year deal worth $120 million in February, speculation has swirled around Fenway's hot corner.
Franchise star Rafael Devers, who is pronounced for his explosive offense over his defensive abilities, was first stubborn to move from third base. He admitted he even considered asking the Red Sox for a trade.
"Third base is my position. It's what I've played. I don't know what their plans are. I know we had a conversation. I made it clear, kind of what my desires were and whatever happens from here, I don't know," Devers said to reporters on Feb. 17.
Several weeks later, Devers changed his tune after the story picked up traction in the Boston media.
"I don't have any beef with the team at all about anything," Devers said to reporters. "We've made a lot of good moves this year. We're a really good team. I think we have a good opportunity to make it to the playoffs and play winning baseball, but third base is what I see myself playing this year."

On Wednesday, that media saga came to its conclusion. Manager Alex Cora confirmed that Devers will be the club's designated hitter as Bregman will take his post at third.
"We made a decision," Cora told WEEI on Wednesday. "Alex is going to play third, Raffy's going to DH. We all are in the winning business, and (Devers) understands that."
This moves also keeps Cora from having to assign Bregman to second base, which can now be given to baseball's No. 7 overall prospect Kristian Campbell.
