Neill Blomkamp is Officially Taking on an Alien Sequel

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/ne...officially-taking-on-an-alien-sequel#/slide/1

District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp made headlines last month when he posted a series of concept art designs for a new film in the 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise. Although the filmmaker admitted that the designs were unofficial, he hinted that he’d be more than happy to take on such a project. Today, Blomkamp posted a new image with a message that should make Alien franchise fans pretty happy!

“So I think it’s officially my next film,” he writes!

At this point it’s uncertain precisely what route the new film will take or if Signourney Weaver (whose Ellen Ripley was featured in the concept designs) will be returning to the franchise.

“[Sigourney] knows about it,” Blomkamp told ComingSoon.net last week, “and part of it was just inspired by speaking to her on set when we were filming ‘Chappie,’ and getting her thoughts on ‘Alien’ and what she thought of the movies that came after ‘Aliens’ and what she felt about Ripley and what was incomplete for her about Ripley. There was so much fuel in what she was telling me.”

Exclusive: Might We See the Return of Ripley in a Neill Blomkamp Aliens Movie?

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/ne...rn-of-ripley-in-a-neill-blomkamp-aliens-movie

Earlier this year, director Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame posted some mysterious concept art for what looked like his take on a sequel to his favorite movie Aliens, though he added the caveat that it was something he did on his own without any of the studio’s knowledge.

There’s been talk of another straight sequel to the original “Alien Quadrilogy” for many years, with Sigourney Weaver being one of the main sources of information. After a bunch of mediocre Alien vs. Predator movies, original Alien director Ridley Scott returned to that world with Prometheus, which only had a passing connection to the Aliens mythology, so Blomkamp’s concept art reinvigorated interest among the fanbase for another straight sequel.

He's a good director, but argh! I want to see Chappie, but that movie has so much similarity to Short Circuit. Okay, it looks different enough that I can't wait to see it. Now this? Originality fail.

Lol, just because the robot looks like johnny 5. short circuit is very dated, a newer version with a different story is welcomed.

I think chappie is rated R too.

He kind of sounds like J-5 as well. That turns me off a bit too. Give me ED-209 from Robocop's voice any day.

Wow...the news on this is all over the place. It's also been said it's a prequel to the original story now they are talking direct sequel. They have no idea so I am not holding my breath.

Either way I am not interested in seeing the Ripley character back if they have to used some convoluted plot line to force her in there. The idea is totally disjointed at this point. It was stupid to kill her off in the first place an go with the clone idea. Dumb!

Not just the look. In the trailer he can be heard saying "I'm alive".

Sigourney Weaver's Ripley return will pick up after 'Aliens', ignoring other sequels

Director Neill Blomkamp has revealed his new "Alien" movie will overwrite "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection".

http://www.cnet.com/news/sigourney-...-pick-up-after-aliens-ignoring-other-sequels/

We've all suffered through movies we wish we could strike from our memories -- and the new "Alien" movie is set to do that officially, writing off everything after "Aliens".

In a video seen by blogging site /FILM, director Neill Blomkamp and star Signourney Weaver confirmed during an interview with the UK's Sky Movies that they are working together on a new film in the "Alien" series. They also revealed that the film will fit into the series before the unpopular "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection" sequels.

In a van...down by the river.
The more popular mainstream verdict seemed to be that Alien 3 sucked and Alien Resurrection should have never been made.

For me personally, i didn't like Alien 3 that much until i watched the extended cut, which made more sense and was actually pretty good IMO. Deeper story, better ending. I liked the darker atmosphere of it. Great musical score too. I would encourage those who hated it to rewatch the extended cut. Many fans were pissed when Hicks and Newt were immediately taken out of the equation, and IMO just hated it from that point on...regardless. I understood the decision so i was cool with that.
The theatrical cut(which just about everyone saw obviously) was a hollow disappointment.

I do think it should have ended there though(with Alien 3)...at least concerning the Sigourney character. Resurrection had some fun moments, and the underwater aliens scene was very effective, but it was a forced, cash grabbing corny mess overall.

I'm not very excited about this new Blomkamp Alien film to be honest. I was let down with Ridleys Prometheus, so maybe i'm not being fair to Blomkamp. I would just prefer to see Sigourney in a cameo role, rather than a feature role in anything at this point.

I hated 3 but enjoyed 4. only having flares made it boring for me in part 3.

Me too. 4 was a lot of fun. I hesitate to say much about 3 though in large part because I suspect I missed a lot of what was happening in that movie. It was the last time I ever went to a Drive-In. It was the first showing of a double feature so dusk already presented a challenge but additionally, the theater sat right next to train tracks. Those tracks were very busy that night. A3 could have been a genuine masterpiece for all I would have known.

Neill Blomkamp Suggests Alien 5 Will Not Rewrite Franchise Continuity

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/tr...ill-not-rewrite-franchise-continuity#/slide/1

Continuity fans can breathe a sigh of relief today as Chappie helmer Neill Blomkamp today clarifies to French film site AlloCine that his plans for the next Alien film do not mean that he’ll be dismissing the events of the second half of the sci-fi horror franchise.

“I’m not trying to undo ‘Alien 3′ or ‘Alien Resurrection,'” he tells the outlet. “…My favorites are the first two movies. I want to make a film that’s connected to ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens.’ That’s my goal.”

Blomkamp’s comments come on the heels of a report yesterday that led many to speculate that the new film would rewrite the events of the latter sequels. We’re still not entirely sure how Blomkamp’s planned take fits into the chronology as his concept art (check it out in the gallery viewer below) seems to suggest that the film will feature Michael Biehn’s Aliens character of Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Could the new film take place between Aliens and Alien 3, or does the District 9 director (and Alien franchise superfan) have some other tricks up his sleeve? Only time will tell, but check back for updates as they become available.

This makes more sense now but they still screwed up after Aliens. Maybe they will say that the real Ripley never really died?
