I just watched it. Great movie. The effects were pretty impressive for 1979. The alien popping out of the stomach part was absolutely disgusting. I have seen that part spoofed in other films, but had never seen the original scene from this movie.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential video
A landmark of science fiction and horror, Alien arrived in 1979 between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back as a stylishly malevolent alternative to George Lucas's space fantasy. Partially inspired by 1958's It! The Terror from Beyond Space, this instant classic set a tone of its own, offering richly detailed sets, ominous atmosphere, relentless suspense, and a flawless ensemble cast as the crew of the space freighter Nostromo, who fall prey to a vicious creature (designed by Swiss artist H.R. Giger) that had gestated inside one of the ill-fated crew members. In a star-making role, Sigourney Weaver excels as sole survivor Ripley, becoming the screen's most popular heroine in a lucrative movie franchise. To measure the film's success, one need only recall the many images that have been burned into our collective psyche, including the "facehugger," the "chestburster," and Ripley's climactic encounter with the full-grown monster. Impeccably directed by Ridley Scott, Alien is one of the cinema's most unforgettable nightmares. --Jeff Shannon

That’s cool to hear. I’ll be watching that one in the near future.

I get most of my movies from the Scottsdale library. They’re a little slow, but you can’t complain about free.

I just watched Alien about a month ago. Creepy, but good sci-fi flick. I have Aliens in my queue.

Do they let you place holds?

Yes, you can browse on-line and request as many as you want, but you can only have 10 DVDs out at a time. When it’s ready, they place it on the requests shelf for you and you have a week to pick it up. They are a little slow to get new releases, but their selection of the older stuff is really good.

Took my wife to see this (for her first time) on the big screen last night. I saw it in theaters during its original release and several times since but she had never seen it. Love that older movies are getting screen time again (Pollack and Harkins in AZ).

Looks like Alien is coming back in October! I've never seen it on the big screen.

The Harkins has Labyrinth coming in July and I'm all over that too!

How am I just hearing about this?? :bday:

So, did you see aliens yet?

So much better than Alien. Aliens and terminator 2 are the best sequels ever made in my opinion. I saw aliens in theaters like 4 times when I was a young kid. It was awesome.

I got to talking to my wife about iconic movies like this. She had never seen the original Star Wars. She has seen it now. It was like, who hasn't seen Star Wars?
