The area enjoyed a tournament season rarely experienced with Smithville, Dalton, Norwayne and Hillsdale all advancing to regionals.
Hiland, Orrville, Chippewa and Central Christian all advanced into district play and on Wednesday, the area reaped the rewards of a successful season.
This season Orrville junior Kodah Allen was a must-see player for anyone in the area or the state. Electric with the ball in his hands, he could score in bunches and in a quick bat of eye as he averaged 22.4 points per game and earned Third Team All-State honors.

A trio of locals were the highlights on every game day for their respective teams as Braden West and Parker Metsker shined for Norwayne. The duo set the tone for three-straight Wayne County Athletic League titles and back-to-back undefeated campaigns, the first since Northwestern did it in 1960-1961. West poured in an average of 15.9 points, and Metsker led the area with an average of 8.6 assists to go with 10.3 points. The duo earned Special-Mention All Ohio.
Joining the pair was Triway sophomore and standout guard Bruin Flinner, who averaged 15.6 points, pulled down 4.9 rebounds and dished out a team-high 4.0 assists.
Giving the Bobcats four All-Ohioans was senior Tyson Hess and sophomore Braylon Arnold as they were selected Honorable Mention. Hess led Norwayne with 16.4 points and grabbed 5.9 boards, and Arnold finished with 10 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Senior do-everything guard Brady Hignight was the key to Dalton’s success this season as everything started with him. Driving to the lane, stepping back to hit a mid-range shot or finding a teammate, Hignight did a little of it all as he sparked the ‘Dawgs to their third-straight trip to regionals. He earned First-Team All-Ohio for his sterling efforts as he averaged 18.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Teammates and fellow seniors, Matthew Heatwole and Coy Wenger, joined him as All-Ohioans as Heatwole was named Special Mention and Wenger, Honorable Mention.
