The first Par 3 Contest was held at the Augusta National Golf Club in 1960 and since then, there have been 62 playings of the popular event on the Wednesday ahead of the Masters Tournament.

The contest was played uninterrupted for the first 57 years until 2017 when weather forced the cancellation of it. There were two more cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are 15 golfers who have won both the Par 3 Contest and the Masters but, famously, no one has ever won the Par 3 and then gone on to win the Masters later that same week.

Since that first playing in 1960, there have been 112 holes-in-one during the contest. In 2016, there were a record nine aces.

The course used for the contest was designed in 1958 by architect George Cobb and club co-founder Clifford Roberts.

The coures measures 1,090 yards and is a par 27. The best score ever was the 8-under 19 that Jimmy Walker signed for in 2016.

The list of Masters champs who never won the Par 3 Contest include Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

There have been three ties: 2003, 2012 and 2022. Rickie Fowler is the latest winner.
