Alphonso Davies ruled out for months with serious knee injury

Alphonso Davies has suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty with Canada.

The initial reaction to the injury was positive, but scans have revealed cruel news for the left-back and Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians announced on Wednesday that Davies has suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Davies will undergo surgery today and will be sidelined for several months.

The Canada international is not the only key Bayern player who has returned from international duty injured, with France international Dayot Upamecano set to be sidelined for weeks with a knee problem.

“Unfortunately, there's always a risk of players coming back injured during the international break and this time we've been hit particularly hard. The absence of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano is a blow for FC Bayern,” said Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl.

“Phonzy will get all the support he needs on his way back. We will also be keeping a close eye on Upa in the coming weeks and expect him to be back soon. Our squad is strong and will make up for these losses. We will now work even closer together. The quality is there to continue to pursue our big goals.”
