Amare, agent in loan dispute By Gary Grado, TribuneThe Suns have withheld $54,000 from Amare Stoudemire's May paychecks in a financial dispute between the power forward and his former agent. The Suns are going to keep garnishing Stoudemire's wages up to $210,000 until the dispute is settled between the second-year player and Minneapolis, Minn.-based agent John Wolf, court documents indicate.

Sources have said that Stoudemire and Wolf split over friction between the agent and Stoudemire's mother, Carrie, during the forward's rookie season in which he was named the rookie of the year. Wolf filed a lawsuit in October 2003 in U.S. District Court in Minnesota, claiming he lent Stoudemire money and was repaid only $10,000. The court entered a default judgment in favor of Wolf in February for $196,069.98 plus interest. The Suns got involved in April when the agent issued the team a Writ of Garnishment. Court documents filed by Stoudemire in Phoenix say he never contested the lawsuit in Minnesota because he assumed the dispute would be handled through arbitration rather than in court. Stoudemire's attorneys declined to comment Thursday.

Stoudemire is now trying to get the default judgment undone in Minnesota, court documents say. And in the meantime, Judge Earl Carroll of U.S. District Court in Phoenix, has told the Suns to keep garnishing Stoudemire's wages but not to release the money to anyone until he says so. Wolf did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
