Should pessimism go down to defeat and Kobe enlist, USA's roster will number nine - the above three names, Jason Kidd, Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Karl Malone, Mike Bibby and Ray Allen.

Does the committee, in its challenge to fortify the undersized team with role players, fill in the blanks with draftees or NBA starters? That's the next undecided topic of discussion?

That, and how long Kevin Garnett will be given to make up his mind about joining Larry Brown's posse in its crusade to fully recoup from last summer's sixth-place degradation. Ben Wallace, Elton Brand, P.J. Brown and rookie of the year Amare Stoudamire are the leading candidates for the three remaining spots, whereas Chris Webber and Rasheed Wallace have suitably disqualified themselves due to admitted criminal incidents and allegations. ..


That would be great news. Playing with Tim Duncan, Karl Malone, Jermaine O'Neal and probably KG can only help him.

And since he is under rookie contract we don't have to worry about anyone doing some tampering (Ason Kidd).

Playing 82+ games this season after having played 70 total previously, I hope Amare rests up this summer and works on his game.

He has plenty of time for Olympics later. I, for one, don't want him to tired next season.

By the 2008 Olympics he will be 25 and ready to dominate the world.
