AMC may allow texting during movies, because millennials

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...w-texting-during-movies-millennials/83033082/

If recent reports are any indication, millennials have already ruined politics, Wall Street, free speech, the housing economy, the modern workforce and, yes, even wine.

And according to a new interview with the CEO of the AMC theater chain, Adam Aron, smartphone-free theaters may become a thing of the past, thanks to — you guessed it! — young people.

“When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow,” Aron told Variety. “You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s now how they live their life.”

He later expanded on his statement via Twitter, suggesting a future where AMC would designate certain auditoriums as texting-friendly.

Unbelievably stupid idea. Many already avoid theaters because of rude adults and unruly children...let's add texting to the mix. Lame.

When I read this I imagined it in the voice of my father in law.

The older you get, the more you realize your father in law is right.

These frikking brats and their cell phones need a big wake up call. At every turn they expect the world to bend over and stimulate them.
Meet their needs for them. Dare not offend them. Ask for anything at all in return and you are (Choose your favorite)

i don't understand why people want to stare at a glowing 4" screen while in a theater watching a movie on a massive screen. Part of movies, camping and other activities I enjoy are all about escaping life and connectivity and just being simple for a little while.

That'll be me boycotting AMC theaters, if it comes to pass.

What a jackass, to compare telling the poor wittle miwennials to tuwn off theiw wittle cell phwones to losing a frickin' limb. I mean, I know the idiot was pandering, but damn, was that a stupid line.

I've followed this since yesterday. Apparently AMC has been getting blasted on Twitter because of this. Good.

Although I don't agree with millennials ruining Politics or Wall Street (those were ruined way before) this is just another reason for me not to use AMC. If you want any concessions there AMC's prices are ridiculous. I can go to Harkins have the same quality experience and have money left over to take the family out to dinner.

This just guarantees I won't ever go into another AMC theater. Now instead of seeing if a theater is equipped with DOLBY ATMOS I have to check to see if it's "texting friendly". Are you freaking kidding me?

Wow yeah, that's crazy they even thought about it.

I guess they must be hurting for money. Not a lot of good movies, theater overbuild thinning crowds, and high prices are keeping people away.

Then people know it'll be on demand/blu-ray in the not too distant future... and cable premiums not too long after that. Most times if a movie comes out in April-May-June, it'll be on Cable around the end of the year Nov-Dec-Jan.

But notice they said 'in the foreseeable future'. So it could come back.

I've averaged less than 1 trip a year to the Movie theatre in the last decade...

This probably won't effect me either way.
