Releases on Christmas. Saw a trailer last night where a woman is handing what they think might be a bomb to a child and the sniper was having to decide if he should take the kid out or not, the trailer was very suspenseful and gripping. Think ima go see this during my vacation if I can get the wife to watch a movie like that.

It's the true story about the life of Chris Kyle (who was also friends with Marcus Luttrell - Lone Survivor).

You should read the book of the same name. He was a very humble, well liked man.

The book is an easy read... This is going to be a rough movie to watch I think. Taya (Chris Kyle's wife) has several entries in the book and it was hell for her to go through 4 tours as well. This should give you a good look at what military families have to go through when their wives and husbands are deployed.

I am for sure going to watch this. Can't imagine what his life is like after knowing he had over 160 successful kills. Plus, so hard for a family

Taya is also the one that is suffering the effects of the lawsuit Jesse Ventura continued on with even after the death of Chris. Ventura is such a scumbag. Suing a widow. Stay classy.

I agree with you, this is going to be tough. I'll probably be cutting some serious onions when it's all said and done.

MPAA Rating: R (for strong and disturbing war violence, and language throughout including some sexual references)

Plot Summary: From director Clint Eastwood comes "American Sniper," starring Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter. U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname "Legend." However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the SEAL creed to "leave no man behind." But upon returning to his wife, Taya Renae Kyle (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind.

DUDE! SPOILER ALERT. :mulli:

Some of us have not read the book and didn't know he's dead. :(

Still looks really good and still want to see it, though less excited now that I know he's already dead.

Lol. When I posted that I assumed it was common knowledge.

Chris was killed by a Marine who was suffering from PTSD at a shooting range in Texas. It had nothing to do with his service or I'm assuming the movie.

The book obviously doesn't cover his death.

Sorry. I figured folks knew. It was headline news.

All good just giving you crap. I had not heard that or anything else about this guy before the movie unfortunately, but knowing Clint Eastwood, it will be the closing act of the movie. lol He's not the sunniest director, although he did get pretty cornball at the end of Trouble With the Curve. :D

Still cant wait to see this, it looks terrific.

Exactly what I am waiting for too- reviews. Still going to see it regardless, but just to see what people think. I bet it will be a tear jerker (for the one's that are like that ;))

Saw it last night. It was okay. Really good and intense in parts, drifted in others. Reminded me of Selma in how it didn't flow well. Worth the price of admission.

I saw it today and thought it was really good. Eastwood really pulled it off in showing the dark side of war, and the bad effects it has on those who wage it, yet at the same time anyone who wants Chris Kyle to be their hero can still point to him as one. Not much "rah-rah America" or flag waving in it. Just gritty depictions of the crap we put these guys through.

That said, I don't think it was a GREAT movie. It was slow in parts and a lot of the other characters were kind of flat and not interesting.

Pretty much agree with this. Quite intense in parts, slow in others. As a movie BASED on the real guy, it was quite good. 4 out of 5 stars.

Even just one day later I have trouble picturing basically any characters other than Kyle and his wife. But, they were both terrific and carry the movie.

In general, they are indeed the only ones who stand out..... though I can picture his dad and his brother.... but not anyone else really. Both actors WERE very good, as you point out.
