Faces off the field gives a deep look into the thoughts and lives of high school student-athletes in the Austin are. Today we feature Cedar Park softball player Ellie Massey, a freshman pitcher who has designs on being an engineer after college.

All about Ellie: Freshman keeps it real with music, energy drinks

Tell something about you that most people don't know.

Something most people don’t know about me is I love math and I hope to become an engineer one day.

What has been your favorite vacation?

My favorite vacation I’ve been on is when I went to Colorado. I went with my family and my favorite part was when we went to go horseback riding down a mountain.

If you could compete in the Olympics in something other that softball, what would you do?

I would probably do diving. I think it’s so cool how they do flips while trying to make the dive as perfect and smooth as possible.

What is your favorite sound?

My favorite sound to hear is probably any music. I love listening to music while I’m doing homework or getting ready for the day.

Softball memories: hair today, gone tomorrow

Do you have any pregame rituals?

My pregame ritual is having an energy drink right before we start to warm up. I also have to listen to music to get me into the right mindset before a game.

What has been your favorite softball memory at Cedar Park?

My favorite memory so far is before the games getting ready with everyone just listening to music, talking and having fun. My favorite part about getting ready is doing everyone’s hair; I love to do different types of hairstyles when people ask me to do their hair.

Do your teammates treat you differently because you're only a freshman?

I don’t think they really treat me differently. They give me a hard time every once in awhile and make me carry the buckets, but otherwise I feel like I’m treated pretty equally.

Dream dinner: A country music night and a softball lesson

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

I would choose Kenny Rogers, George Strait, Chris Stapleton and (Oklahoma softball coach) Patty Gasso.

Patty Gasso?

I chose Patty Gasso because I want to hear how it is being a four-time national champion and how her and her teams' faith got them there.

You're in charge of the menu. What will you order?

I would serve burgers and fries because I feel like that’s a meal everyone likes and it’s also one of my favorites.
