Plot Summary

Genres: Documentary
Tagline: A Global Warning
Plot Outline A documentary on Al Gore's campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognized problem worldwide.
Plot Synopsis: Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Mr. Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change. A longtime advocate for the environment, Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way. "Al Gore strips his presentations of politics, laying out the facts for the audience to draw their own conclusions in a charming, funny and engaging style, and by the end has everyone on the edge of their seats, gripped by his haunting message," said Guggenheim. An Inconvenient Truth is not a story of despair but rather a rallying cry to protect the one earth we all share. "It is now clear that we face a deepening global climate crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly, and wisely," said Gore.

I just watched it. It had a lot of interesting information in it, but I thought it also had way too much fluff. It spent too much time going into his childhood and things like that, which I had no interest in. It seemed at times as if they were trying to stretch it out to fill an hour and a half. I haven’t studied too in-depth on this issue, just what I hear and read about in the news. It was definitely interesting enough to make me want to start digging into the information/data for myself.

Wow, this was a great, informative movie and makes you wonder what the heck we're doing.

I agree with Bada Bing, some fluff in it, especially stuff about Gore losing the election...

But other than that, it was superb. All the statistics that are undisputed in the scientific community, yet we do nothing. It's scary actually.

Everyone should see this film.

My ex girlfriend from years ago gave me this for xmas, I watched it today. Way too much irrelevant stuff about Gore's background, the election etc. Fluff to pad the time for sure.

I won't turn this into a huge political debate just point out a few things. When Gore shows those graphs of temperature data over thousands of years, that graph is known as the Mann Hockey Stick that I've written about several times in P&R. Officially now it's been declared valid for only 350-400 years.

The 65,000 year data Gore refers to earlier has been panned for years because it uses so many different proxies(methods of obtaining temperature
records) that it's like using a different bathroom scale everytime you weigh yourself and then trying to make a claim as to how much weight you've lost.

My DVD copy sucks, keeps skipping, etc so I missed a few parts in the middle, he does make some good points. I will say this, Gore is a HORRIBLE speaker, he's so monotone it really makes this hard to watch. He should have gotten someone else to do the voice over. I was quite surprised by that you'd think a career politician would be a little better public speaker, but I guess Bush isn't exactly riveting himself.

Great film! It’s amazing that the world isn’t more concerned that humans could be on their way to extinction within the next 50 to 100 years. It’s true that we’re like the frog that boils to death, yet never jumps out of the pot. The water heats up so slowly, that he never feels it happening until it’s too late. It’s appalling that all of 3 people (myself included) take the time to give this film a half hazard mention on this board and then move on with our daily lives as if there is nothing to worry about. You’d think that this would be everyone’s number one priority in life right now – to figure out a solution before it’s too late. I just hope that the next president takes a leadership role in the world to bring about change.

On a side note, back in July I had the pleasure of seeing the movie at the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood with a live Q & A with Al Gore afterwards. It was pretty cool. I ended up leaving my video camera at home because I figured the secret service wouldn’t allow it in the theater. We get to the theater and there is hardly anyone around and zero security. I asked the theater staff where the security was and they said that Gore had chosen not to travel with a heavy security detail and didn’t want the theater to bring one in. I was shocked. It was treated like a normal movie showing. Anyone could have walked in with a weapon. When he came in the through the back door at the end of the movie and took a chair in front of the audience, there was very little security with him. It was a great experience to see one of the great political minds of our time in person.

I liked that analogy too.
