ATL - WAS - Redskins RB Portis Says People Should Mind Their Own Business Regarding Vick
Source: WAVY 10 News - Virginia Beach, VA
Redskins Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels were interviewed by WAVY 10 TV on the topic of Michael Vick's alleged dog fighting.
Portis had some pretty intersting comments.
Said Portis, "I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not but it's his property, it's his dog. If that's what he wants to do, do it. You know? What people do behind close doors...
The reporter interjected, "But that's a felony. It's a crime."
Portis didn't seem fazed, "That can't be too bad of a crime.
"You want to hunt down Michael Vick over fighting some dogs. I think people should mind their business.
"You take somebody that's doing positive in the community. You take a positive role model and put them behind bars for no reason, you know. Over a dog fight?"
When asked if Portis thought it was prevalent in the NFL or NBA Portis said, "It's prevalent in life. I'm from Laurel, Mississippi. I know a lot of backroads that's got a dog fight if you want to go see it, you know?"

To his credit, Chris Samuels was standing next to Portis but he looked like he couldn't believe what Portis was saying. Samuels said, correctly, that we need to see how this shakes out and if anyone is convicted.
But Portis wouldn't stop talking. It's a felony offense to even attend a dog fight as a spectator in most states, including Virginia and Mississippi.
This is exactly the kind of thing that will have commissioner Roger Goodell exploding. It's one thing for Vick to possibly be involved with dog fighting. But for one of the premier faces of the NFL in Portis to be on camera acting as if it's no big deal and saying that people should mind their own business and let Vick do what he wants is exactly the opposite of the type of press Goodell wants to see.
