Annoying Windows Media Player Problem

Everytime I open a file in Windows media player, it plays normally for about the first third of whatever I am watching, but then goes all black. I am wondering if this is a normal problem, if not, how to fix it, and if too big a hassle, how to make realplayer my default player. Thanks in advance.

what version of WMP are you running? what kind of files are you playing? are you running any other apps at the same time? how much memory does your machine have?

Just downloaded the most current version, all video files, yes, not too much....I solved the problem by just using realplayer, thanks for the response though!

I solved the problem by just using realplayer,

Ouch... Man I dislike that program... why does the default install assume that you want Real Player running every second your computer is on...??

I agree with you Cardfan, I hate RealPlayer for that purpose. And I never could figure out how to turn all the default crap off so I deleted the whole program. What really got me going is I couldnt shut my computer off one night because a data miner program installed by realplayer was running and had froze. In addition, my firewall was taking hits from both directions from realplayer. Furthermore, when I tried to unistall it, it wouldnt do it using the uninstall.

I work for Windows Media up here in Redmond. Can you send me a link to the media you are trying to watch? From your problem description I am not sure what might be wrong. Let me know, I'm willing to help out.
