I guess I must be the only one who likes what Ainge is doing in Boston. That team was going nowhere and wasting the prime years of Paul Pierce's career in the process when Ainge got there; now, at least, there's some slight hope that the franchise will be a contender before Pierce retires or moves on to another team.
For fairness' sake, I admit that I found the Celts under O'Brien to be pretty much unwatchable.
Let's see, what was Ainge asking O'Brien to do, anyway?
--play young, talented players instead of relying on mediocre veterans playing heavy minutes
--stop constantly playing small ball (McCarty was starting at PF)
--teach the players to play man-to-man defense instead of relying on a complex, trapping zone
--get out and run instead of staying bogged down in half-court sets
What I wonder is, where could Ainge have gotten all of these crazy ideas?
