Another Purdue women's basketball player hits the transfer portal

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue senior guard Jayla Smith has announced she'll enter the transfer portal. Smith announced that through X, formerly known as Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Smith will enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer after playing just two games and averaging 3.5 points.

She missed her final 27 games. Purdue athletics declined comment on why she didn't play.

Smith previously was a rotational guard who seemed primed to earn more playing time after averaging 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 19.0 minutes as a sophomore in 2022-23.

The 2021 Lawrence North graduate scored a season-high 15 points against Duquesne in the the 2024 WNIT tourney and sank a game winning 3-pointer against Wisconsin during the 2024 Big Ten Conference tournament to help Purdue reach the NCAA Tournament..

Smith was a 2021 Miss Indiana Basketball at Lawrence North.

Purdue had its third member of the 2024-25 team enter the portal, joined alongside Mila and Amiyah Reynolds.

Former Purdue forward Madison Layden who didn't play in 2024-25 announced her intention to enter the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining from COVID.

The NCAA transfer portal opens on March 25.
