The Carolina Panthers have once again been linked to University of Georgia pass rusher Mykel Williams.
First, it was Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, who wrote last week that Carolina was "very interested" in the 20-year-old edge defender. And now, this week, it's longtime team beat writer Joe Person—who wrote the following about the Panthers and the state of their outside linebacker position in his column for The Athletic on Wednesday:
Other than signing former Minnesota Viking Pat Jones II to a two-year, $15 million deal out of free agency, the Panthers have not touched the position this offseason. Their underwhelming group of pass rushers from 2024 led the way for a 16.2-percent pressure rate for the defense, the lowest in the NFL.
Between the nods from both Pauline and Person, Williams is seemingly in play for Carolina's first-round pick—which currently stands as the eighth overall selection of the 2025 draft. Person even tweeted this on Thursday regarding Williams and his Georgia teammate Jalon Walker, the perceived favorite for the Panthers' first-round pick:
Williams was named a second-team All-SEC member in both 2023 and 2024. He amassed 9.5 sacks over those two campaigns.

[Jadeveon] Clowney stayed relatively healthy in his first season with his hometown team. But the former No. 1 overall pick turned 32 in February and has a lot of wear on the tires, which is why edge makes a lot of sense with the first-round pick. I’m told the Panthers have a real interest in Georgia’s Mykel Williams.
