How much is any single player worth? In this case the cost of getting Marbury was huge.

If we assume that Hardaway and Trybanski was traded for Eisley (all otherwise untradable), other than relative salaries, the personnel exchange is basically a wash.

That means that Marbury was traded for:

1. Milos Vujanic (great guard prospect)

2. Maciej Lampe (great center prospect)

3. Antonio McDyess (if he's healthy, they can re-sign him after the free agent deal with their Bird exception)

4. Two first round draft picks (with the 2004 unprotected)

5. Cap space enough to go for a free agent next summer and reduced cap costs the following year.

A first year cash savings of over $10 million

In theory, the Suns could end up with 6 players (counting the FA) in exchange for Marbury. Chances are they will bundle two or three together to make a deal.

On a team with a good track record on drafting, it seems likely the Suns will come out of this deal looking pretty good. With luck it could be huge.

I am not sure exactly what the full impact of the Ward deal and the luxury tax reduction. I may be too low.
