Here's something for Boldin and DD to think about, Whisenhunt has easily out performed his contract but has never once complained about not getting a NEW contract. The guy's done something far more difficult to do than make a pro-bowl. He's turned one of the laughingstocks of the NFL into a team that just missed winning it all and under his watch has never had a losing season. Coach W currently has 2 years left with a 3rd year as a team option and isn't anywhere near one of the top paid coaches. In fact, Haley just received a much bigger contract than his (Ala, Fitzgerald receiving a bigger contract than Q). Yet, he hasn't said one word about it to the media. In fact, when asked, he's indicated that it's never entered his thought process.

That said, Wilson, Dansby and Boldin should have their contracts re-worked (Dockett needs to show he'll play hard every play, every game before I worry about his extension). However, when do you think we should extend Whiz and for how long?

I personally don't want Ken going anywhere near the last year of his contract so extend him with a nice raise for 5 years. I hope that in addition to getting Wilson, Dansby and Boldin redone, that Graves makes locking Whiz up long term a priority. (Maybe getting some of these extensions done before training camp would be a good idea?)

Whiz has certainly out performed his contract when it comes to results on the field. With essentially 3 years left on his contract, I think we should wait another year before extending him.

Right now my biggest knock against him was that he was unable to keep the team motivated once they won the NFC West. He got pretty lucky that the entire team was able to just flip the switch back on.

Whiz has not "outperformed his contract". IMO

He's lived up to the promise of steady improvement, made when he was interviewed for the job.

Year 1: 8 and 8
Year 2: 9 and 7 (playoff run)
Year 3: ???

If we continue to improve, a new agreement could be in the offing after next season.

I agree he's underpaid, but a coach can continue his career into his 70's if he's good enough. Players have far less time to make the money that will provide for themselves and their families for the rest of their lives.

I read an article somewhere that had stories about how many broke ex-players there are out there. Obviously, they weren't too up on how they should invest their money and wanted to live like a rockstar instead of thinking about their future. But it still drove home that they really have a short window to earn their nest egg.

Actually, 12-8, two championships, and a superbowl appearance. For a team that's never won anything, I'd say it's a little more than "steady improvement" but hey maybe that's just me.

I think that with McCreight handling Pro personnel matters we'll take care of our coaches, Whizz chief among them. Graves, What is he doing?

Whiz's and other coaches contracts are strictly within the purview of the General Manager (Graves) and the President (Mike Bidwill).

I am all for extending Coach Whiz contract. I think he should be inducted into the hall fame for taking the cardinals to the superbowl.

I see Whiz as a lead by example type of guy. If he and the organization do not or will not redo anyones contract until there is one year remaining, then I don't see Whiz asking to redo his contract until there is one year remaining on his.

Holy crap this is hilarious, I bet if you saw him walk on water, you would ridicule him for not running.

umm....i'm failing to see the logic here...Whiz took us to our first super bowl in franchise history...in just his 2nd year? If thats not outperforming his current contract, then i guess you're expecting a dynasty for pennies. I like how you undermined his 2nd year with 'playoff run', we were 30 seconds away from winning the super bowl, thats a bit more extensive than a simple 'playoff run'. When rookie coaches (Mike Smith, John Harbaugh, Jim Zorn) are getting paid more than Whiz, you know he needs a raise. He's currently the 23rd highest paid coach in the NFL, and if your not some sort of schizophrenic, you can pretty much assume that Whiz is vastly underpaid for what he's accomplished so far with the cards. I guess i failed to realize that the cards were a perennial powerhouse before whiz got here....my bad...

Why not a bonus?

The Cardinals could pay him a discretionary bonus for last years performance. They don't have to give him a new contract when he has 3 years left on the current one. If he does it again then they can extend him. There are no cap restrictions on coaches.

Whiz is doing things very very smart. He gets in very good with managment and will eventually get a very very nice payday. I have this strong feeling that Graves really likes him (he makes Rod look great...which can be hard to do). Rod Graves will do what it takes to make Ken happy.

Whiz and Fitz would have been treated like Gods for the rest of their time in AZ had we won the SB. Regardless, they're both made men in AZ from here on out and I definitely think Whiz is MORE than deserving of an extension. Seeing him run around the stadium, high fiving fans after beating the Falcons was great. He's an awesome coach and a great guy, I hope he stays in AZ for a LONG time.

The suggestion is that he "outperformed" his agreement and, thus, deserves a new deal immediately. I haven't read his contract, but am quite familiar with standard personnel contracts in sports. I signed a few myself.

I highly doubt that his deal included any performance or triggering mechanism surrounding playoff success. His deal, however, is guaranteed.

I don't think it is too far fetched to say that Whiz, when interviewed for the job, promised a plan and steady improvement with likely solid returns in the third year. He has surpassed that, no doubt, with an incredible playoff run for a 9-7 team, from arguably the weakest division in football.

I merely want to see the third year returns before re-writing his agreement.

To my knowledge, Whis, nor the team... is planning to sign an extension at this point. So, one may wonder... what's the ******* point of these "sign Whis to an extension" threads?!?!
