Mel Kiper lists Cardinal draft choice Antonio Smith the top steal of the 5th round. He states, "A former JUCO player who improved greatly during his senior season at OSU, Smith has enough pass rush potential that he was a possible 3rd round selection." Maybe the kid can play I guess we will find out. Maybe Skorp will see him at rookie camp this weekend.

He has talent he's just raw. Deke can teach him fundemantals and technique and play ST for now.

Antonio Smith a Steal?
Reuters (Not!) - April 29, 2004 -- Former Oklahoma defensive end Antonio Smith was reported stolen Saturday, according to Detective Melvin Kiper.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact a Mr. Arkush at someplace called Professional Football Weekly....

I think he's a dud. He'll be the "what was Green thinking" pick for the year. At least Green waited in the later rounds to do this, instead of the first round like he did with that crazy guy who tried to kill himself and talk to God back when he coached the Vikings.

Yes, Underwood was a wasted pick for a number of reasons. Even if he was sane, he was not worth a first round pick.

Smith and Underwood? Where in the world do you draw that comparison? He's the anti-Underwood.

I'm not saying Smith is anything like Underwood. I'm implying that Green usually has one draft pick that sucks. Actually most teams do. I think Smith is the questionable pick for this year's draft. He and Underwood have nothing in common except that they are both strange picks, and like Underwood, Smith probably won't be around long.

I've liked Green since the get-go, but for a coach who said we have too many projects on this team, drafting Smith seems hypocritical.

You are wrong about Underwood he did not become ill until after the draft. People said what was DG thinking when he drafted Culpepper and Moss too.

This kid produced decent numbers in college 8 sacks one year and was an athlete. He was essentially a second round pick for the Vikes where they were picking in the third he would not have been there.

We don't know how he would have turned out if he had not had a complete mental breakdown and became seriously ill. Given DG's track record if this guy had not become ill he at least would have been a solid starter and might have even been a pro-bowler.

Here is a hint of the potential of Underwood he played part time on a lousy DAL team with a serious mental illness and he got 4 sacks that is 3 more then Pace got playing healthy fulltime.

On a related note a player is only a reach if he doesn't work out if Carroll gets 4 or 7 ints and a all rookie team member he was not a reach but a smart pick. Ditto if Pace gets around 10 sacks he was an astute choice.
I mean people reach for players in the draft all the time only if it doesn't work out can they be criticized for that.

Carroll is much more of a first round reach then Underwood and he was drafted by a terrible drafting team in GB.

I know that not much can be told from these mini-camps, but how did Antonio Smith look?

I doubt that Smith will make it. Sounds more like a projection pick (a guy that could be good) or a camp body/practice player.

I wonder if he was drafted because he's known to be able to motivate others to work hard?

Some of you guys must really be in touch with these players. I have no clue as to how good or bad Antonio Smith is. I could not label him as a dud or dude as I think you really have to watch a player on a continuing basis and film to get some idea of his potential. Some of the big names I remember and have watched and have an opinion on. Navarre I observed on many occasions and thought with his record, size, and opposition he played against he would go around round 5 but most of the other low picks were and are a mystery to me.
