Ok you bitter Suns fans, you have had a night to sleep on it. Any shift in feelings about this trade? I personally am very thrilled with this move, but I can also see how those that had high expectations and/or season tickets for this team would be upset. I think it's funny that the media is calling NY a playoff team this year. As much as I've grown to like Marbury in his time with the Suns (hated him before he joined us), he won't be able to save the season for the Knicks this year. It's asking too much IMO. I really think we will have two lottery picks this summer and if the reports are correct a pretty good PG coming in next year to join them. This is 3 young players on top of Lampe. If Dice signs for less and can give 15-20 min off the bench that would be bonus. If not, so what...see ya. All that on top of maybe a good FA pickup. I realize the C's keep telling us this is the team and then shaking things up, but I can't fault them for seeing the big picture and taking a chance when this offer came their way. If this was your business and you saw a chance to get out of the financial hole you had dug and at the same time have the chance to build for a bright future than wouldn't you do the same? When Marbury was with NJ and they had some injuries didn't that season look allot like ours now? Marbury is a great PG, but I kind of feel his style hurt Amare and Shawns games. I could be wrong, but with that kind of athletic frontcourt it just seems like a pass first PG is better suited for this team. Hope those of you that are angry at this move come around. Go Suns!

I don't know. I like that the Suns finally have financial flexibility. It's nice to dump Hardaway's huge contract, and Marbury's outrageous extension. It is nice to be able to dump over $20M after this season (Googs+Dice)

I don't like that we let go of the best PG in the league. I don't like that we have NO experienced vets left on the team, and I don't like that the dream of "Marbury/ Marion/ Stoudemire" winning the championship is gone.

I guess we won't know untill Phoenix is done dealing, drafting and signing free agents.

If they sign Kobe and get rid of Marion, I'll be very happy, but if they waste their money of Q. Richardson or somebody like that I'll be pissed.

It just hit me....this trade reminds me of the Cowboys/Vikings trade that allowed Dallas to build a SB team in the 90's. Hope the Suns have the same success!

This trade kind of reminds me of the Larry nance trade (not that I was old enough to break that down I think I was like 3) anyway everyone hated that deal, they traded their best player for some bad players and picks. Then they used that to turn it around and sign a high profile FA (chambers). Maybe there is something to this. But I sure will miss Marbury

I look at it like this

Say you have a 6 ' 10" stud

and

a 6' 3" stud (or whatever Marbury is).

Your taller stud is younger.

We don't need a scoring point guard, although I really like Marbury.

Give us a decent playmaker who sees the floor WELL, hits an open shot and blah, blah, blah.

I personally think the naysayers are going to be wrong on this one, and I for one sure hope so.

First off, KJ from what I have read was a nobody when we got him. He was getting zero playing time. Vujanic could easily be a somebody, from what everyone has said he is a top 5 pg in europe right now, possibly the best.



I have partial season tickets, and to tell you the truth, I don't know what people are complaining about. I will probably enjoy the games more now. I LOVE watching Barbosa.

It isn't like the team was winning anyways. So the team still looses, and we get to watch our young players prove they can play on their own, and weren't riding Stephs coattails.

IMO, people who really enjoy watching the game of basketball, not just watching Steph dominate the ball (and do amazing things with it) will enjoy watching more now.

Yes, but there are 5X the amount of starting positions to fill in the NFL.

If McDyess plays anything like he used to we will see Amare and Dice together in the frontcourt.

No doubt.

Maybe they could try Johnson at PG, Marion at SG, Zarko at SF, Dice at PF and Amare at C.

I don't like Johnson at Point guard. Can't feel comfortable with him making the decisions in our offense. I would rathe see Barbosa get the minutes. Maybe Eisley if he can start being productive in D'antoni's system.

As I've said elsewhere (if this sounds familiar), one of the keys for me was getting Lampe. Every draft forecast had him going in this season's lottery. I have not come across any centers in the upcoming draft that have as much potential to be a top NBA player. Unlike the Knicks that had a zillion inside guys, the Suns could actually get Lampe some minutes. Obviously many highly rated prospects never pan out but he is much more likely to be a star than Voskuhl or White.

Another thought, we've seen how vulnerable a team can be with a lot of money committed to players who might get hurt. How long will it be before another Fortson decides to permantently keep Marbury from driving the basket? Googs was almost injury free before joining the Suns.

Second, KJ was a relative unknown at the time. He was a rookie who had been picked 7th, but most considered him a reach. He sat on the bench behind Mark Price and didn't do that much in limited playing time. Considering the drug scandel and the talent level without Nance, it actually seemed like more of a risk to make that trade than this one. That team didn't have anyone close to the level of Amare or Marion waiting in the wings.

Also, no one knew that some unknown player from Central Michgan taken with that pick would be Thuhder Dan.

If I rember correctly KJ had one good game before the Suns traded for him. Nace was a great player and was the Suns only valuable player to trade for the future. Right now this is what the Suns are doing trading away the #1 player for a reach player and role players. But they are getting much more in return this time. I didn't know we locked up Barbosa for 4 years wow now that is a steal at that price.

I have to think the Suns believe Barbosa will be a top player. Eisley will be insurence for the rest of the season, but I think Barbosa is going to be their main man fairly soon.

Everyone who scouted him said Barbosa could be the next Gary Payton. (Payton was the 2nd pick in the 1990 draft). He is younger than Payton was and less refined, but Barbosa has the same explosive speed and quickness and may be a better leaper. Barbosa has an enormous wing span which give him the reach of someone 6'8" and should become an outstanding rebounder.

I'm not saying that Barbosa is going to become better than Marbury. But he doesn't have to for this trade to work.

kj was the seventh pick in the draft and an untested rookie (cuz he played behind price). he was an unknown commodity. all the talk is that vujanich would have been a lottery pick had he come out this year and that lampe should have been one if his contract sitch was not rumored to be a nightmare. they probably have close to the "potential" that kj had at the time we traded for him.
