On KDUS yesterday - they referenced a quote by Grant Winstrom...something to the effect of: "I would rather retire than play for one of the teams that was interested in signing me as a free agent"

Obviously....most people assume it was the Cardinals...or that was the speculation on the radio (the cardinals were one of the teams that was trying to have him in for a visit).

Tons of comments to be made here.....the guys on the radio made it sound like: hey..at least the guy is speaking the truth...

I am shocked he was that sought after (especially at the $$ level he received)...I do not think he is that great - and he plays on the same line as a very good pass rusher (little) who should take off some of the heat as far as double teams..

Then he trashes some team who wanted to pay him many millions....I can only wish Winstrom had ended up toiling away for peanuts in the AFL2.....

Another conspiracy theory: this is the 2nd shot at the Cardinals (if that is the team he meant...) taken my a rams defensive player...Archuletta pretty much ripped into the place during the season....hmm....Aeneas is the leader of the defense...I don't suppose he spends any time trashing his old team do you:D

Those comments were the fuel for one of the best radio calls of the season from Pasch and Mistler.

In the Cards/Rams game at Sun Devil this year Boldin caught a long TD and had five Rams, including Archuleta, bounce off of him.

Later in the game, Boldin torched Archuleta for his second TD of the game prompting John Mistler to say..."It's not Archuleta's home anymore, it's Anquan Boldin's home baby! Go on back to St. Louis."

I love it!

To hear the call, go to the 6:12 mark of this production:

That says so much because Mistler is an ASU grad! He has the Q's back!

I will question if that was referencing the Cardinals --

why? He was scheduled to visit here.

I find it hard to beleive that if he felt that strongly about the Cardinals, he would have even taken the time to come here.

He had enough teams on his docket that he didnt have to make the Cardinals the second team on his itinerary, or to use them simply to up the ante.

I am skeptical.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but there's no proof that Wistrom targeted the Cardinals with that comment. Why jump to conclusions and bash him without being certain?

Because it is fun, and it allows us to vent frustrations while adding fuel to the rivarly-fire with the Seahawks.

shane and jeff: I thought the cardinals had announced winstrom was coming here ..or had been targeted for a visit...but it was cancelled when the seahawks signed him immediately...but I could be wrong on that ...

I did state it was speculation - and if he said it about any team it sucks (he did say a team - just not which one)...especially when they were courting you...

On the other hand....I would guess he was referring to the Cardinals...he did grow up near St. Louis...he plays for the Rams..and if the cardinals are hated anywhere...it is St. Louis..and I thought the cardinals were on a short list of teams he was visiting.. Why would he visit here? to drive up his price - which he appears to have done successfully by implying he would go other places..

also....when they were discussing it on KDUS...they were speculating it was the Cardinals also...they could have no clue..or they could be right.

More fuel for the rivalry fire...

It probably was the Cardinals he was referencing but then again you have to consider that he has played in St. Louis for years and heard nothing but bad things about Bidwill.

St. Louis is a funny town that holds grudges badly for the most part and they never consider that all the years Bidwill screamed for a new stadium they just ignored him and then when he left they were stuck for some time without football.

Then they go out and find just as bad of franchise if not worse and pay a kings ransom to them to come there so that financially it became at the time the most profitable football team in the NFL. Several years later they win the Superbowl.

When the Rams won the superbowl they won it because Charlie Army put together some huge trades and drafts and Kurt Warner dropped out of freakin nowwhere. They proceeded to get rid of the coach that got them there and put Martz in charge who is a great OC but a mental midget in charge of a team that should have won two more Superbowls. The whole town turned on Warner maybe somewhat deservedly so but we still have people who cover for Jake Plummer so to say they lack a certain amount of loyalty is an understatement.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of conflicted feelings about the Cardinals and though many many people would not admit it under pain of death, they do miss them.

Unh. I don't think the Cardinals would have given him a $ 14 million bonus. So it would be moot if that were true. I don't blame the guy. Cards paid $5 million for Bertrand " midgey " Berry. :D

Maybe you get what you pay for. Hope not.

From what I could gather; everytime Wistrom got up for a piss during his negotiations they freaked and added 1-million to the offer. Seattle is the team that has worry whether the adage applies. :D

DG needs to get this quote and put it on the Bulletin Board. The Cards play him 2 times a year. He can take his single digit sacks to SEA and stick them up his @$$.

WINNING

is ALWAYS the BEST medicine. Everyone talks. Players, fans, coaches. Let ARZ. & st.l. decide it on the field. We may have the last laugh. I DEFINITELY believe we're heading in the right direction. We have definitely up-graded the team AND we're getting alot of positive "ink". A solid draft and the NFL-media machine will be saying, "Keep an eye on Arizona". GO CARDS!!

A Denny Green story--

he was roomates with Mike Holmgren when both were coaches with the Niners.

He was in Minnesota when Mike was in GB

Denny went 10-4 against Holmgren during that span

He wants to keep beating Holmgren now and will point to the Seahawks as the team he wants to beat.

It also helps that they are probably the preseason favorite to win the west.

He owned Holmgren. That record actually flatters Holmgren. One game he won was on a ref's error and fluke TD. Two other wins came when our team was devistated with injuries. And in one of those games we essentially had one of the worst NFL QBs in history (our 3rd stringer) and still almost won.

jurecki is back on this...the exact quote was...."I would rather retire than play for one of the teams that was interested in me"

The teams that wanted him, per Jurecki:

dallas, NO, seattle, KC, st. louis, Arizona

Let me Speculate....I would guess....99% sure he was referring to the Cardinals...Jurecki is implying the same thing. Factor in the guy grew up and went to high school in the St. Louis area...
