There will be another muscial revolution- every generation has one it some form. IMO, music always resorts to the past, and then incorporates something new creating the "musical revolution." It also tends to come from a economically strapped or exploited part of the U.S. or world. Pissed off musicians tend to be the most creative.
Also the fact that some music isn't accepted is what makes it so great to a small group of people. Then the people who are "looking for the next cool thing" start to listen to it, and then it gets popular, gets radio play, and then becomes corporate and repetitive. Who would have thought that "gangsta rap" would become mainstream? It slowly became popular becuase it initially wasn't accepted.
I hope you're correct... I guess I've become cynical on this very subject and have discussed it ad nauseam to the extent that I tire myself out from posting in this forum......
We currently live in the informational age w/so much technology at our disposal, however, for some reason one area in which could have already enhanced and elevated the music industry to newer heights keeps on getting restricted.. which is file-sharing..... True... people should purchase music, but I'm referring to strictly for the use of collaboration.... Just imagine someone uploading their own music that they created.. let's say from India... they incorporate their country's traditional style as authentic as it possibly can be and then send it out to someone in a country such as Israel...and then that person combines their music onto w/that and so forth....
I guess.. since everything has become so global.. I would think the same could apply to music.... That's where the next revolution/movement could evolve, but of course it's become limited due to all the government intervention that has imposed upon it tremendously....
Also.. so many artists dont want to become mainstream because then they have to eventually conform and sell-out.... That's why several of the bands that have emerged over the past decade havent had much sustained success.. that they fade and eventually break-up.. that's again because of alienating their loyal fans that they attained that cult-following and became pigeon-holed.....
I still contend the best music is currently produced in the UK, however, unfortunately people conjure-up the image of ColdPlay when it pertains to Britpop.. which is quite sad since they're inferior compared to the other bands, but of course.. have some image that captivated the masses... again.. it's that image over substance that I've constantly brought-up over and over again....It's quite a shame.....
I hope that Radiohead's new album due out w/in the near future lives-up to its expectations since that alone can help salvage music....
Again.. I hope you're right that at the moment some genre is being created in someone's garage or personal studio, but woudlnt it be something if it was something global? Then the possibilities would be limitless and there never would be another lull in music again.....
