Schaub would need to be renrgotiated before I'd be thinking of trading for him. He's soon to be a FA (2007).

Would be nice but not a must.

He would be a RFA next offseason which means it isnt a deal breaker for him to get extended right away IMO.

It was his 1st draft not 2nd.

Shmo's right... I stand corrected.

So, one would think if they were interested in 2004, then they should be now. He would be the perfect guy to bring in for this team, w/ 2 yrs. under his belt, he would be both a legitimate back-up to Warner and the QBOF. He could back-up Warner this year (w/ a chance to play when Kurt goes down with injuries) then he could take over as starter in a year or two.

I'm sure he would love to get a chance to start on this team with Q and Fitz to throw to. The way things are in Atlanta, he's not going to be the starter anytime soon.

I like Schaub, but there's some high praise going on here for a guy that only attempted 64 passes last year. His one big game was against a New England team that was abolutely reeling (and they still lost) and his other game was in junk time (down 44 points junk time) in the last game of the season against Carolina.

And Wally's off the wall saying that Vick's last QB coach was "fired." Didn't happen. His contract wasn't renewed.

A second-rounder is a lot to ask, especially a high second rounder. I'd offer a swap of 1sts, though. Accordint to the Draft Pick Value Chart, the 6 spots would be equivalent to a low second-rounder. The Cards could pick up a DT/OT of value there.

The kid has been impressive anytime he's had a chance.

When I saw him dismantle my team when he was in college i was thoroughly impressed. I was sure he would be drafted in round 1. Well, I was wrong about that but if you watch him play (watch him check off receivers and make pretty much kind of NFL every throw) you'll see that he has the tools to be a good starter in this league.

Remember last time the Falcons traded a QB for a second rounder? :)

I'm just saying that you're basing a lot on 64 passes, 33 of which were completed. Are you willing to pass on Omar Jacobs or another solid prospect based on 33 completions? Has that really been enough to sell you?

Jake Delhomme was signed after a season (maybe two) in NFL Europe and 86 career NFL attempts (completing 50). But (1) Carolina didn't give anything up for him, and (2) he was 28 years old when the Panthers acquired him. He was a finished product. Shaub is going to be celebrating his 25th birthday this offseason (Christ, I'm getting old...).

I like Schaub a lot. He has all the tools to play at a high level in the NFL. I would definitely trade my 2nd rounder for him. But he is NOT ready to step in & be our #1 QB this year. We should sign Warner to be #1 & let Schaub know that he is one injury away from being our QB for a very long time. There is NO ONE out there that should supplant Warner this year & that includes Leinart, Young or Cutler or any of the FA QB's available. This team needs to compete for a playoff slot this year & the only way that happens is with Warner throwing to Fitz & Quan.

I have watched two guys extensivly in the preseason and when they got into games that i deem worthy of the Cardinals....

Matt Cassel ( i know i know im alone here) and Schaub.....Schaub has nice touch, good velocity, pocket presence, and throws a good ball. Hes even somewhat athletic in that he moves around the pocket well...

Dont look so much at his stats. Look at his field presence and where his throws land according to there intended target. i didnt think much of him in college but after watching him the last two years, the kid is legit....

Because preseason is always such a good measure of how players will perform once the games start to count.

No preseason All-Pros. :thumbdown

I like what I've seen from Schaub and Cassel as well, but also agree that they are still very unproven. I think it would be wiser to take a guy who's shown, although in very limited time in the NFL, potential and ability to play over someone who hasn't at all though. I think a 2nd rounder for Schaub is very reasonable, bordering on a steal depending on how he works out. He may be a one game wonder (AJ Feely, Jim Druckenmiller) but so far he's looked good, especially in compairson to Vick and Schaub's relatively little amount of playing time. It's only natural to assume that with more time in practice and with the receivers he would improve.

Here's his stats for the last 2 years. Not bad for a second year guiy. Look at that QB rating last year 98.1. I would give the ATL a second in a heart beat.

Omar Jacobs or any of the other below round 1 projected QB's are no where close to the QB that Schaub is.....and therefore I would indeed be willing to pass on any one of them.....in a NY minute.

Your idea of swapping 1st round picks with Atlanta for him has real merit.

Off the wall? Fine. It is semantics. How about terminated? I guess if they wanted his services he would have been " renewed ". Even Michael Vick was perplexed by his " non renewal ".

And Lindsey wasn't "fired" either. Not getting your contract renewed amounts to the same thing.

No, it doesn't. The main factor is money. If an NFL coach gets fired, it means that the teams wants to get rid of him so much that they're willing to pay him to stay away. That's much different than saying "thanks for the three years, but we're going in a different direction and think we can do better."

Either way a guy is out of a job. If you are a contract employee who does not get a renewed contract you are out of work, they didn't have to fire you. Same result.

Sometimes I swear you just argue for the sake of arguing.

 But the motivations behind it are different. If you don't care, then why are you arguing? I don't care whether or not a coach is out of the job, it's the reasoning from the organization that seems important to me.

Motivations aren't necessarily different. You can have employee A, who you strongly dislike, and decide to fire him. You can also have employee B, who you dislike exactly as much, but since he's no longer under contract, you simply don't hire him back. For someone who claimed another person was playing semantics, you seem to be using tunnel vision on the subject.

But there's nothing to suggest that the "employee B" scenario is at play here. When wally posted on the "Vick Coach Killer" thread, I thought the same thing, but I decided to reply here. Don't you think that the message is much different if someone gets fired versus is allowed to leave?

For example, when Wendell Bryant was cut, wasn't that a much different message than was sent when Ronald McKinnon or Kyle Vanden Bosch were allowed to leave once their contracts expired, even though the Cards could have easily kept each of them (or all of them) under contract?

Umm..sorry no...

The intent was "we dont want you anymore" goodbye...I think it is really that black and white.

No, I don't think it's as cut-and-dry as that, not when the history exists that the player is catered to, to the detriment of the coaches around him.

Many moons ago, I was suspended without pay after a 13 year career with a huge multi national corporate entity. Technically, I was not fired, or say the corporate lawyers. My lawyer said differently. Didn't matter what they called it. They wanted me out of there and I needed a paycheck. Easier to suspend someone without pay or not renew them, than fire them.
