1. It's not my web site anymore and it's difficult divorcing myself from moderating. Not offering that as an excuse, just trying to explain.

2. My own previous rule of not attacking the messenger was violated by me.

3. You mocked Melvin by calling him "Elmer Fudd." Been there, done that. My mocking reference to Cardinals coach Vince Tobin was to refer to him as "Mr. Beige."
Dan Bickley of the AZ Republic picked up on it and emailed me asking if it was okay to make it his own. I told him to feel free to use it and it was picked up everywhere, even on ESPN and in the USA Today. I felt bad. Tobin was a nice man.

4. I saw tonight that players' performances are indeed interelated and snowballing, as you stated. Perhaps more so in baseball than in other sports. I'm learning.

5. Your passion is appreciated and I hope I didn't chase you away. Football is my passion but baseball is getting there too.

I was out of line and apologize. With an Irish temper, I did the same on the Cardinals board with Stout.

No need to apologize, Jim. I'm a perfectionist and hate to see continued mistakes, whether they occur within my family, at work, among friends or the teams I root for.

So I state my opinion every time a thread deals with it.

Unfortunately for you guys, it was reinforced by the Mike D'Antoni episode.

And now I see parallels with Bob Melvin.

Y'know, I think back to when he was named Manager. He was the 2nd choice to Wally Backman, until Backman was discovered to be an abusive alcoholic.

I didn't disagree with letting Backman go so quickly. But Bob Melvin was clearly the 2nd choice.

I believe we're seeing why he was clearly not the 1st.
