are Davidson and Owing the help at the plate we were looking for?

Owings batting .313 and more importantly Davidson slugging .607 with 3 hr and 9 RBI in 28 AB's in September. Could these two be the spark in the lineup we were looking for next year?

If Owings really is a .300 hitter well have either DiDi or Owings to deal and Daividson could be the power bat we need in the lineup. With Davidson at 3B we move Prado to LF.

Davidson is not a third baseman, he is more suited for the American League. I would really like to see Owings get a shot but who knows if they will give him a fair one in spring training.

Exactly... Davidson is lost in the NL. Unless they turn him into a left fielder - which, if that happened he could be the left field bat we so desperately need...

Owings will absolutely get his shot. They need to be able shop either him or DiDi.

Yeah, we need to play the young guys and cut the fat. With our cap, we don't have much choice.

Who do we cut? No one is going to take on the contract of Cahill, Bell or McCarthy. Maybe you can trade Aaron Hill to the Yankees if Cano bolts and that then opens the door for Owings and Gregorius to both play everyday.

If that were to happen, then you have this for your starting lineup.

Adam Eaton CF
Chris Owings 2B
Paul Goldschmidt 1B
Matt Davidson LF
Martin Prado 3B
Didi Gregorius SS
Miguel Montero C
Gerardo Parra RF

Bench
Wil Nieves
Willie Bloomquist
Cliff Pennington
A.J. Pollock
Cody Ross - Big Question Mark With Hip

And then here is yoru pitchign staff

Rotation
Patrick Corbin
Randall Delgado
Wade Miley
Archie Bradley
Trevor Cahill/Tyler Skaggs

BullPen
J.J. Putz
Tony Sipp
Joe Thatcher
Brad Ziegler
David Hernandez
Josh Collmenter

UGG
Brandon McCarthy
Heath Bell

Based on this, ifyou drop Bell, McCarthy and Ross, that is a 25 man roster. But there is no clear closer.

We need a power bat in the outfield in the worst way to provide some protection for Goldy in the lineup. If Davidson fits the bill, so be it. But he's far from a guarantee to fill that role.

And no, I would not trade Aaron Hill unless the offer knocked my socks off. He's part of the solution, not the problem. You simply don't trade guys who can hit 25 HRs, a .300 BA, and have a .360 OBP....as a second baseman.

I am not saying you should trade him, I am saying he is the only one you could trade to make room for Owings and you could make them take Mccarthy or Bell with him.

Still wouldn't do it.
