The Suns can only sit and watch as the Clippers and Q have the Suns' cap space tied up until LA decides what to do with the offer. I've seen various reasons why the Clips are taking their time, but I'm beginning to suspect their waiting it out because they know they can hurt Phoenix by keeping their money locked up in a deal with a player they'll never suit up.

Pretty clever for Clips. Fair play to them I guess.

This happens with almost every RFA signing. It isn't anything new.

That is why Denver wanted to get a S&T done with Martin. They were pretty confident that NJ wouldn't match their offer sheet, but didn't want to loose out on everyone in case they did at the last second.

Too bad we didn't offer Zarko or Milos or 3M$ cash in a sign and trade for Q. They must have been confident that the Clippers won't match anyway.

Clippers would be making a big mistake, Q has already said he hopes they don't match, he wants to be a Sun. You don't want to have players on your team that want to be elsewhere.

In another thread I asked if the Suns know something we don't. On the surface, it looks pretty obvious that the Clippers would match.

None the less, I can see some scenerios where the Clippers might decide to go another way. The truth is that it is not clear that having Maggette and Q in the same lineup really works. Their styles are too similar which hurts independent of their personal conflicts. Both are outside guys that want to play close to the basket and neither are especially geared to being catch and shoot outside guys.

Considering their current lineup, going after Bob Sura might make more sense to the Clippers than matching for Q. He averaged 42% from the field and 14.7 ppg with Atlanta. More important, he has some experience at PG which is going to be an issue for the Clippers until Livingston is ready to take over.

I don't like Crawford much, but he probably would make more sense for the Clippers. They do need a point guard until Livingston develops. Of course they could just sign them both.

The Clippers would have to seriously overpay Crawford to keep the Bulls from re-signing him. But as you say, they have the cap space to both.

Kiki has become very predictable and is front loading offers, so that the matching team has to come up with a lot of up front money to retain their FA. If the Clippers configure their contract that way it could keep Chicago from matching.

If the Dampier deal goes through in NY, that becomes one less place Crawford could go.

The Knicks went to great lenths to keep from including Kurt Thomas in the Dampier deal so he would be available for the Crawford deal. The truth is, the Knicks are the only team that would take Robinson's contract so something may happen. But if not, then the Clippers would have a decent shot if they front loaded.
