Save the jokes, fellas. No play on words.:)

We are 5-3.
If we were the Colts or the Patriots, we'd be wondering just what the heck was wrong with our team.

We are 5-3.
If we were in the east or south divisions we'd be no better than 3rd place If we were in the north, we'd be tied for first.

We are 5-3
Most of us have come to the foregone conclusion that everyone might as well "Crown Our Asses" as NFC West Champs.

These next 2 weeks will define our 08 season. As fans we have the right to feel anyway we'd like. Basking in the new found success in this the 2nd season under coach Whiz and a resurgent Kurt Warner we are in a position very strange to this Cardinal Nation.

We are 5-3
It's scary.

Are we being set up by the "Football Gods"? Is this just another cruel joke waiting to be sprung on us?

If it is, I have fallen hook, line and sinker. This season "feels" different. It looks different. We seem to have a confident swagger. We are winning games by 20 points and when we do lose we never seem to be overmatched or out of it. Even down 35-0 to the Jets this team clawed their way back into the game enough to silence to home town crowd.

I don't want to temper my enthusiasm. I don't want to think this is just another dream that we will wake up from. I don't want to be the fan waiting for the other shoe to drop.

As much as we want this team to change their culture, we as fans need to learn how to change ours. I don't want to see "kool-aid vs darkside" anymore. I don't want to be the brunt of every loser joke although the Raiders and Lions have helped deflect those remarks.

You can also bet we will continue to hear from many the "Remember, this is the Cardinals we're talking about" rhetoric as we make our way thru the second half of the season, win or lose.

This much I do know. This team is coming together. The fans our coming together. This forum is coming together. We the TRUE diehards are starting to believe and develop our swagger. It may take a year or two of winning before the entire 'glass half empty' syndrome is cast from our minds and our hearts. It will still take some time before we KNOW Rackers is going to make the 45 yarder to win the game. It will take some time before we KNOW we are going to win the game. Thats what umpteen years of failure will do to you.

So, I'm going to continue to enjoy my dream season. Please, do not disturb!:)

I am definitely not too high. We are 5-3. That is where most better than average or good teams expect to be eight games in. There is a lot of season left and I wont believe that we are in the playoffs until I enter the stadium that day. :)

Nope. If we were 5-3 with a half game lead, it would be much different.

I'm at the appropriate level of high.

I've never seen a Cardinals team that could put up points like this one, in the almost twenty years I've been a die-hard fan. I think this is a very good team that is bound for the playoffs, barring catastrophic personnel loss due to injuries. That said, I expect we will still hit some big bumps, maybe a loss or two to teams we are supposed to beat. People will panic. Some loser will yell "same old cardinals." There will be adversity this season, I have no doubts about that. But I expect us to make it through.

We are on a pace to finish 9-7 or better and win the NFCW for the first time ever. That's exciting.

No kidding. The Cards at 5-3 with a 3 game division lead is like 8-0 for any other team except the Lions.

And never forget that the Cardinals won a World Championship just two years ago with the worst regular season record of any Championship team in league history.

Mulli, you live in the Chicago area? I heard a rumor that there was another team in the windy city besides the White Sox. Is that really true?

In the last 100 years the White Sox are the only Chicago team to win a World Series so I was surprised to hear there might be another team in Chicago.

guys - just enjoy it for what it is

you have a big lead in the division, an offense that is putting up some silly passing production and a team that is delivering an entertaining product

you've beaten two good teams in dallas & buffalo - you've played two good teams close on the road in washington & carolina

try not to worry about contracts, players feelings, as none of that matters right now

expect to win, expect to watch a product that will do well, know that losses do happen and that outsiders will grab the shovels everytime one does - but also know that you're in a good position

once you are in the playoffs all that other stuff takes care of itself - weak division, questionable secondary, ability to win on the road, blah blah blah ........ at that point you're 1 of 6 in the conference and the chips will fall as they will

so why not get amped up? what harm can it cause?

None.

Plus we have to consider that our defense is ranked 10th in yards allowed. If they finish there it will be the Cards highest ranking since 1994!

D FENSE!!! Its been a long time since we could yell that convincingly.

Watching and caring for the Cards as long as I have I think it would be silly to temper my enthusiasm.

Its all perspective. Remember the talk about the tougher schedule before the season?

Well we are 5-3 with that tougher schedule and lead the league in 20+ point blow outs.

I'm not crowning anybody just yet. This Monday will tell us alot.

But as all of us fans know all too well....its better then the alternative.

We should hire you as our forum psychiatrist!:) Good advice from a divisional foe fan.
I hope I can pass this along someday to some other downtrodden fan. Of course it will be a lot easier after we've won 5 division titles in a row! ;)

I have always been a cautious fan when it comes to the Cards as I have been at this since 1945. I think the numbers back up that we are a potent offensive team no matter what division we are in. We beat the Cowboys with Romo and Buffalo. We played Washington tough. I think we are the highest scoring team in the NFL with the best receivers on any one team in the NFL. Our QB is playing like a MVP and a pro-bowler. On any given day we have the capability to beat any team in the NFL. I agree that we are about to face some tough teams and that will be the acid test of just how good we really are. Who would have thought this team might just win 10 games this year? Certainly not me. If Hightower and the OL can continue to protect Warner and we can run a 100 yards a game who knows how far we can go. We also could go into a nose dive as even some of the best teams are doing now. Dallas, NE, are not the powerhouses they were supposed to be. We are better than we are supposed to be. I think our players now think we can win any game. They are getting better by the day. I think Whiz is getting better as he is new to this job. He wanted this team to be a Pittsburg when he arrived. We were not and are not Pittsburg. We have all pro receivers and one of the most accurate QB's in the history of the NFL. That is our offensive strength. Having a Hightower only adds to that passing strength if he is the real deal. I have seriously begin to think this Cards team is the real deal.

Of course it's all perspective. 5-3 in the AFC East is a three way tie. I'd be worried.

But we're 5-3 in the NFC West. Of the 6 worst teams in football, 3 of them are in our division. We should be happy.

What I don't understand our the fans who were worried about the Rams last week. Or worried about the 49ers this week. Were those fans worried when the 60 win Suns went up against the T-Wolves? Of course not.

We should go into games against bad teams and expect to win. That won't always happen (good teams lose to bad teams sometimes, it just happens). But don't go into the week thinking that the Cards should be ultra worried about facing a God awful Rams team.

And it's not just that we're 5-3. It's how we're 5-3. We have a great offense and very fixable flaws (run game and tackling). I don't think anyone here is booking flights for Tampa yet. But it's not unreasonable to think we have a good shot at winning the Division.

If the Cards didn't have such a successful track record of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory or making league doormats looks like playoff contenders it probably wouldn't happen.

Losing 4 games in 4 tries, 2004-06, against the team with the #1 pick in the draft the next year doesn't help the comfort level.

Probably going to take awhile for the constant worry to go away.

An earthquake in Arkansas? Did the earth really shake? Did the magnetic poles shift? When John Holt thinks we might have a real run game and admits publicly, while sober, he has begun "to think this Cards team is the real deal", methinks the Cards have finally arrived.

I think going to the playoffs, and winning the division, regardless of the circumstances, is a VERY big deal for the Cardinals.

It has been a while to say the very least.
