I'm speaking from history here:

Ricky Waters
Brock Marion
Joe Montana
Roosevelt Colvin
.....on and on and on and on

Arizona always has cap room, nobody wants to play here. Free Agents talk up Arizona because they use them as leverage to sign with another team. Edgerrin James is going to be another notch on the bed post of free agents that have made Arizona Cardinals managment bite the pillow. History repeats itself over and over in this league.

That said..... if the Cardinals do sign James I would equate it to Reggie White signing in Green Bay. The turning point of the franchise that will show other Free Agents that it's okay to sign here.

Are there realy that many teams i the Market for an RB with our kind of money to spend?

Here's hoping that Edge or one of these guys is arrogant/self-confident enough to think that the only reason why the Cards aren't winners is that we don't have him.

Funny how the Colts became an Elite team with the arrival of Edge not Peyton. I wouldn't for a second suggest that he's been more instrumental in their success. But maybe a savy GM trying to stoke the flames of resentment would.

None of those other guys had to play in Peyton Mannings hideous finger pointing shadow.

With Edge, it's hard to tell.

In all seriousness, I'd imagine the thought of being a part of a team on the rise, perhaps being that missing piece to the puzzle, would be enough for a player to want to come to a brand new stadium in a city that never drops below 40 12 months out of the year.

Until we have an O line we could bring Jim Brown in and make him look bad.

I don't think many RB's in their 60's would look good, no matter what the Oline is doing.

And there arent many if any RBs in their 20's that would look good behind the Oline that we fielded this year either

Jim Brown being an certain exception. If he hadn't retired when he did, he would have established every record in the books and they would still be standing......without exception. Think a 2000 yard rushing season is the benchmark for greatness in today's NFL.......he would have blown through this number.

There has never been nor will there ever be a RB to compare to him.

I saw him play on TV when he was in his prime. (In fact he quit when he was in his prime) You are 100% correct.

woulda coulda shoulda.

I agree that Jim Brown may have been on top of the rushing records. Another player that quit before his time was Barry Sanders. He still had 3-5 GOOD years left in him and he was only about 1500 yards away from the rushing record.

You don't think Barry Sanders could've been as good if he hadn't departed so abruptly? What's your opinion?

When Brown quit, he still had another ten years left, given the NFL in those days.

Nope.....no doubt Sanders was a good one....but Brown was the Gretzky of football, the Tiger Woods of golf.....he completely changed how the game was played and on how greatness was evaluated.

I agree he changed how greatness was evaluated, but he didn't change the way the game was played. He played it the same way every RB back played back then...he just did it so much better he was unstoppable.

Hasn't Edge said that he wants to return to Florida? Although most of the Florida teams are set at RB now.

History says that Edge is using the Cardinals as leverage.

However a few things have chaged in Cardinals land. They have stability at the QB position now. Most important of all is that they finally have a home to call their own.

I think with the money we can throw at Edge and the New Stadium opening up, there might be enough to entice him to sign here. It won't be cheap though. We are talking a $17-20 Million signing bonus.

The reality about James is this: He wants to get paid. In an ideal world he could go play in Miami but they are taken up at the RB slot.

Jacksonville is the only team other than the Cardinals that causes me to pause. But being that i have been to Jax. the only thing it has in common with Miami is proximity. Jax. is a sleepy town and i think James would be making a mistake by going there (like i was going to say anything else...)

James is exactly what the Cardinals need and he should be the FIRST priority this offseason. Over pay im and show him the respect he deserves and craves. SOmeone made the corellation between Reggie White going to Green Bay and James coming here. I think that is right on point. He is a winner and would provide the leadership and abililty that this team has been missing for too long. Go hard after him and Bentley and use the rest of the cap money to pay a FS, rotation DTand a linebacker to add to the mix.

In the draft i go OL - (Justice, trade up for Brick with the Jets)

and then TE (Pope, Byrd)

or Vice Versa (Davis in Rd 1 and JeanGiles or winston in round two)

With all the TE depth i think we can get one in the third, so then i would spend our second rounder in Omar Jacobs (big strong whippet armn kid who played under expectations this year)...

But James is the catalyst....I'm assuming we get a lineman or two and when we do....we have the makings of a GREAT offense...

ARRRRGH ,

We have a LT in Davis who is not just good, but bordering on pro bowl. This talk of trading up for D'Brickashaw is futile chatter.....wishful thinking and a waste of bandwith. Have you not heard from enough posters to this effect?

Regarding Winston Justice....not that he's a god or anything, but Mike Mayock was just on NFL Network. His comment on him....he should have stayed in school for another year. No way, no how does he project as a top 10 pick.

A TE in the 2nd... and then you comment that there are good TE's that can be had in the 3rd. If we draft a TE on day 1, dinner is on me at a restaurant of your choice. If we don't, dinner is on you at a restaurant of my choice. Fair?

Omar Jacobs has fallen like a rock and is now projected to be a 3rd rounder. We will not draft a QB project on day 1. But as an exercise, why don't you do a little research on this scenario: The 2007 class of QB's is DEEP in talent. Why insist on taking someone this year when we can look to next year and potentially get one who is not a project. If everything aligns right, we will draft in and around #20 next year. Once our KEY POSITIONAL NEEDS are met this year, if we want to get ahold of a QBOF, do it then when the talent pool is deep.

Dont be suprised if he ends up in Jax. Taylor has played well but is constant injury concern and they might be just 1 HOF rb away from winning the whole thing.

James would make 1 helluva story if we were to sign him, but I don't think we should make it our priority.
We need to go out and get Bentley. Let see what kind of interest James conjures up. Like somebody said above, there aren't a whole lot of teams looking to spend nor have the money to spend on a free agent like Edgerrin James.
I think it's a real possibility ( if our front office wants him) that he could very well end up playing in Arizona. I'm hoping that our front office is looking at this year as the window of opportunity. We have so many things in place and I feel we are at the point where we should really go for the proverbial brass ring.
New logo. New stadium. New mindset.
Want to blow the lid off the NFC West? Go get Bentley. Then give Edge a call, and then give Ray Lewis a call.
Pepper that with a great draft and we are looking at 1 of the six playoff teams next year.

You could make the same argument about Gale Sayers and maybe even Sweetness Walter Payton

It's always fun to compare RB's of different generations. But no one can ever know who was better, it's like the argument of who would win in their prime, Tyson or Ali? It's all opinion and can never be a 'fact'

Wow, that was one of the worst comparisons I have heard yet. If ANYONE could be considered a Gretzky of football, it would be Jerry Rice, not Brown.

It would be much better to compare him to a much better version of Christian Okoye, or someone who left on their own, still in their prime, and not someone who defined longetivity and changed the way the game was played.

Poor choice.

It's simple folks, James will go where the money is. We have the cash, Tampa, Jacksonville and ESPECIALLY Miami are set at running back and I doubt they would throw the amount of money we would at James. That is if we really want to throw that much money at sames...who knows what Denny is really thinking.

Ali beat Tyson, back when his name was "Liston".
