Anyone else saw Utah@Wash? Arenas had 51 I think including 3 threes and a 3FTs of a 3 in the last 2:30 or so. Game was tied with under 10 seconds and Arenas took Williams 1on1 on top of the key and sinks a 3 to win again.

Hopefully we won't let more great UofA products just drop to someone else. Name a better 2nd rounder than Arenas in the history of the NBA.

slin you are saying that you are a fan of point guards that cant get more then 5 assists in 41 min? i am sorry i am a fan of a point guard that set up others over themselves since that is what the job of a point guard is. a point guard that takes 38.6% of the shoots for themselves isnt being a point guard.

personally i think that the shoot first point guard is one of the biggest reasons for problems is scoring in the nba today. why i should i run the floor or work to get position if i cant get the ball?

His team is winning, his teammates are producing greatly (Butler, Jamison etc), he is clutch.. yes I am a fan of great players, he is one.

If Steve Nash put up 51/3/5 including the gamewinner and at least 12 points in the last 3 minutes would you bash him? No, of course not.

no because nash averages 11 assists a game. i bash iverson, i bash arenas, i bash kobe, it has nothing to do with hitting the game winning shot it has everything to do with the old saying that great players make those around them better. nash does that, can you name anyone else in the nba right now that are making those around them better every time they get on the court? because it sure as heck isnt arenas or iverson.

His team is like the Suns without the defense they've been playing. Look at their point differential...like .7 or something.

They run and gun and are good, but can't play defense.

Arenas is great...no doubt...but he's no Steve Nash.

Arenas deserves mvp consideration. He has incredible range and is great at taking and making BIG shots under pressure. I think he's more clutch than Wade or Bryant.

Name a better 2nd rounder than Arenas in the history of the NBA.

I really like Gilbert Arenas and he may turn out to be the best second round draft pick in the history of the NBA, however, I think a case could be made that Dennis Rodman might be the best second round draft pick in terms of impact.

He was on five NBA Title teams, was named to the All-Defensive Team seven times and he won the rebounding title seven consecutive years.

I disagree. The Suns' offense is more creative and disciplined at the same time.

Arenas is a great scorer but his teammates don't really like to play next to him, at least they look like so.

About Arenas being the MVP...well, that's totally impossible.

In an ESPN article on the game, Arenas was quoted with this...

"Right now, Steve Nash is above everybody. You have to really do something dramatic in this league. If Kobe averages 35 with an 81 and he didn't get it, you have to do something else in this league to overtake what Steve Nash has done."

I can't decide if that is a compliment to Nash, or a slap in his face. I will say this, scoring alone doesn't make you a great player. They give the 'scoring title' for that particular ball hogg. Having the most value to a team and/or the league makes you valuable. Here are some good examples: Jordan, Magic, Bird, Nash, Shaq, Hakeem, Malone.

My thought on Gilbert Arenas, I love the guy! Loved him at the UofA, and very happy to see him succeed in the NBA. The only thing about Arenas that rubs me wrong - he has too much of an independent personality. When you are in the spotlight, you tend to say stupid things that you later regret. I think he gets caught up in the emotion of things and talks at the wrong times.

I don't think he gets caught up in anything emotionally, the guy plays video poker at halftime so he obviosuly does not take the game that seriously. He's just a complete goofball who doesn't take anything he says seriously and expects others to do the same with his quotes. He's great for the game, along with Chad Johnson they are the modern day Charles Barkley when it comes to the very rare mix of marketability, refreshing quotes, and talent.

Mark Price was pretty good too.

Arenas is definitely a very strong candidate for the best ever player not drafted in the first round though.

Bear Down Gilbert. Make the UofA alums proud. It's amazing how much former UofA basketball players have made, this is including guys who played in the NBA, overseas and got jobs in the media.

Mao, please understand that I am a fan of Gilbert Arenas. However this statement is false..

I don't think he gets caught up in anything emotionally...

Did you know that he swore he would drop 50 against Coach D'Antoni and another 50 against Coach McMillan after he was cut from the USA squad? He later downplayed it... but right after the Suns game, he said "See, I told you I would."

All of that said - I agree that Arenas is good for the league, and fun to watch.

Let's be honest here about something. He scores a lot of points... but like Kobe, Iverson, and others - He TAKES a lot of shots. Only shooting 43% on the year. That is a good percentage - but Antwan Jamison, Coran Butler, and Brendan Haywood, shoot higher percentage and play significant minutes on his own team!

If I had a teammate that called out the word "Kobashi", that would scare me. For those not familiar with this term as it relates to Arenas, when he is hitting a lot of shots, he takes crazy long three pointers just to see if he is hot... a way to judge if he is 'hot' tonight. He calls it a "Kobashi" shot. WTF IS THAT! Players should only be taking shots in order to score points... and that shot better be the best available shot to the team of 5, or you are not playing good, effecient basketball.

This used to be a basic concept readily agreed upon in the game of basketball. Thank goodness for Nash and Boris Diaw!

Does his coach allow that?

He yells "HIBACHI" when he's hot -- (little charcoal grills) -- same category as chest thumping and fist pumping.

And this sounds like his teammates have adopted it too: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16460000/

Thanks for the correction. You can probably tell that I never eat SouthEast Asian food...so I have no idea how to spell Hibachi... My apologies.

I just meant, they are sort of like the Grizzlies where they are slowly embracing the running style we play.

Obviously...they are light years from how we play.

most great shooters give themselves a heat check during games. majerle used to do it all the time. do you remember crazy dan majerle range when he was shooting from the 3/4 court logos? same thing.

Arenas is amazing and IMO has taken on the mantle as best U of A player ever. Which is a much bigger compliment than best second round pick ever. ;) Sean Elliot never did anything close to put up numbers like this.

But to start comparing him to Steve Nash is insane. Nash is the best offensive player in the NBA period. Areans is one of the top SCORERS. They do different things.

I remember a quote a couple years back where someone said if Arenas was 3 inches taller he would be Micheal Jordan. I'm starting to agree with that. Name me another player in the NBA who is more clutch and a better shooter.

The only thing that keeps him back is his lack of size and he has yet to go deep in the playoffs. However if he played with Shaq he would be getting the titles and love Dwayne Wade gets - bet on it....
