Whenever I click on IE to open my browser, it now takes me to Windows Update website (i'm not even sure it's the real page). I did a system restore to the day before I downloaded it, but it's still there!! When I click on the 'home' icon I can still get to my home page (Yahoo) but not when starting up my browser.

I'm pretty sure Windows Defender was the culprit 'cause it started doing it after I downloaded it. Somehow it changed the registry but I'm not knowledgeable enought to try to change it or delete it.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I had a similar problem a while ago. Heres one thing you can try: in IE, click on Tools (on the top bar) then Internet Options. A screen will pop up, and on the General tab it lists the home page. Check to see what address it lists there. Hope this helps.

Thanks, YoteFan but that was the first thing I tried. Doesn't work. It something in the registry that has to be changed or deleted.

What operating system?

Have you tried to go into the Control Panel, Windows Update and completely shut it off?

Have you tried msconfig to turn off windows update from automatically running on your computer?

I went into msconfig and tried a bunch of stuff. Didn't do anything.

Apparently SpyBot keeps denying registry entry to my homepage (Yahoo) and instead directs it to Windows Update.

OK, so what is it wanting you to update?

Have you tried to install it?

You can check the registry but I think this you can go into services and stop the automatic updates service and it will solve your problem otherwise, it's tricky to find in the registry because your home page is set on a user to use basis so it will be in hkey_users and you have to know your SID identifier

Do a search in the registry for "Start Page" and simply change that key to something else like google
