Screenwriter: Chris Terrio
Genre: Drama, Thriller
MPAA Rating: R (for language and some violent images)

Plot Summary: Based on true events, "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis--the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA "exfiltration" specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Just got back. First, there were a lot of men on their own, me being on of the them. Not sure what that means. Anyhow, I really enjoyed it. Great movie.

Saw it today - outstanding flick. Hats off to Ben Affleck, because this could have gone off the rails on so many levels, and he pulled it off with a very sure hand. Real nailbiter, even knowing the story, with a very good balance of threat/tension and just enough comic relief. Oh, and theater was jammed with all sorts of people.

We are modest, unassuming and a confident people up here, who don't spend much time blowing our own horn or asking anyone else to do so. The playing down of the Canadian involvement, however, was a bit much. Lest we forget, it was once known as the Canadian Caper.

As a postscript, I was the Executive Assistant, in a later portfolio, to Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs who at the time had point on this issue. There are a number of things she related to me, which are not in the film.

That said: As Hollywood "by gingo" movies go it's worth the price.

Along the lines of the U.S. won WWII with George "your blood, your guts" Patton in the lead and the rest of the world as bit actors cheering them on.

I think there is a valid argument about the Canadian presence in the film, but the film itself was really only shot in four point-of-views: The Iranians, the 6 Americans, the CIA and Ben Affleck. Perhaps it would have been different had there been more Canadian scenes, but there really were none--I do think they did a good job of making Ken Taylor look like a positive part of the whole situation--maybe not as much as Canadians would like, but I thought the addition of the minor subplot about the will-she or won't-she tell housekeeper was a nice touch.

great movie! Hats off to Ben Affleck. Lots of tension and nail-biting drama, even tho we all know what eventually happens. Loved John Goodman's character.

Argo f**k yourself! :)

This movie kicked ass on many different levels. For once, a movie had a bunch of shaky camera, and I actually thought it added to the movie instead of detracting from it. Really solid directorial effort by Affleck...and a solid acting one as well.

Good to see it win best picture, but Discovery channel has a show called, "Argo: Inside Story" that been airing the past few days. Many of the ppl involved were interviewed, including Antonio Mendez.

I loved the movie, but it was definitely "adapted" by Hollywood.
