No reason to be. I'm playing with house money. I'm 62, in the second year of a job I'd never thought I'd have. When I graduated from college, I would have been thrilled to be a high school football coach and teach driver's ed.
You think you have the patience to teach driver's ed?
I would have been the best damn driver's ed teacher in America. I know one thing, if I taught it in Arizona, a whole lot more people would know how to use a passing lane the right way.
What about the line?
Our tackles, Jared Veldheer and Bobby Massie, have been huge upgrades over last year. The inside guys have been OK.
So why not play the Cooper kid, the guard you drafted seventh overall in 2013?
Because I hate changing starters on the offensive line. My experience is it can make things worse. Communication gets screwed up and the guy with the ball gets hit.
Maybe for a week or two, but wouldn't you be better in the long run?
That week or two might make the difference between playing at home or on the road in the playoffs. He'll be in there next season.
Arizona Cardinals' (fake) Arians talks about his students
The NFL season has reached its midway point, a time when reporters like to (or are ordered to) deliver progress reports. Instead, I imagine what it would be like if coaches were asked to assess their teams in a different setting: an administrator evaluating a teacher. Here's how such a meeting with Cardinals coach Bruce Arians may have gone:
Did you guys notice the article is fake?
Did you guys notice the article is fake?
First thing I noticed
One veteran player from another NFC team said Arians' players rave about him both as a coach and as a person. "I was doing my homework before free agency one year and contacted a coach of mine who knew Arians," this player said Monday. "The coach told me if the decision was close, sign with the Colts [then Arians' team] because Bruce Arians is the best coach he'd ever been around. That was my first experience, and I've heard remarkable things ever since."
Sounds like AZ could become a favorite landing place for FAs.
