Seems rich that a stadium "owned" by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority has a "problem" with out-of-town fans. Honestly, I don't want to hear anything from the Cardinals or the NFL about it. Sounds like Cards fans are supposed to both buy NFL Sunday Ticket and then not watch it because they're at the game using tickets they also bought. While also, you know, collectively bearing the burden of most of the infrastructure. A private business that's part of a league with an anti-trust exemption has no place telling fans what to do with the tickets they've purchased.

The brokers are another story: that was an avoidable situation.

the upper midwest and rust belt has been losing population for years -- those people have to go somewhere

there is no question that Phoenix is a major destination for the upper midwest. East coasters go to Florida ( and btw: did you hear/see all the Giant fans in Miami last night?)

As it relates to football fandom: arguably, Phoenix is on Generation 1 ( kids born in 1988 would be 27 years old ) of fandom. Once could argue that the real Cardinal football experience didnt kickoff until the new stadium opened --

and I think K9 nailed it: for many Cardinal fans, the "value" of one regular season game (i.e. one of 8 they can go to) is lower than the value to a Wisconsin transplant ( the only game they want to go to, short of travelling) --

I also think it has little to do with fandom. I suspect that if 15,000 Cardinal fans showed up outside Lambeau ready to pay 2x or 3x the "regular" going rate for tickets, there would be 15,000 "loyal" Packer fans who would be happy to oblige them and watch that one game at home.

one last point-- we had an interesting controlled experiment back in 2009. GB came here the last game of the regular season, and then opened the playoffs here the very next week. From personal experience: the number of GB fans went down dramatically for the playoff game.

I agree, and I saw the same thing. I hope and believe that we will see this same dropoff this year. People probably decided months ago to sell their tickets, and it's right before Christmas, I think the playoff games will be more Red than anything.

and they were. That's why I thought maybe those brokers (ie, business entity) didn't have access to playoff tickets.

If you have enough $$$ to buy season tickets, then you don't have common man financial problems. Just saying!

Thank you for adding some logic to this argument. You are exactly right....

The season ticket holders that cry about needing the money and blah blah shouldnt have season ticket plans. Buy individual games if youre just going to sell off all the marque games to visiting teams fans.

I dont believe there is a scale that measure how "passionate" a fan one is for the Cardinals, but selling off your tickets to visiting teams fans is a crappy thing to do and you deserve to be called out on it. You know who you are...

Seating is only expanded for SB and Bowl games at UofP those added seats aren't up for regular playoff games… For the life of me i can't figure out why?

They did expand seating for the NFC Championship game against the Eagles.

Not sure if it was because they had it set up for the Fiesta Bowl already and just said, "why not offer just those"

Or I can buy season tickets for eight games + two preseason games, sell three select games, and have the rest of my tickets paid for. In turn, I can go to seven games for $0 instead of paying ~$200-$500 for one or two pairs of single game tickets.

Prices are falling on ticket exchange, so maybe the amount of Packer fans has been greatly exaggerated. As usual. Seats in my section 122 were going for $700+ a week ago, now down around $300 for the most part.

It will be the same huge amount of Packer fans as always, but it wont be a full takeover.

That wast he game I was remembering. They definitely did sell extra seats for that one. I think it would have been too late for it to be around the Fiesta Bowl, which should have occurred a couple of weeks earlier. I think it was all about the NFC Championship game in that case.

I have season tickets and have common man problems. I've had my season tickets for well over a decade. I'm not about to give them up but this year has been especially bad one for me financially. Especially lately where I've had 3 cars in the shop, the most recent one needs a new transmission that will cost $2,500. My daughter is going to ASU and tuition is due in January. Plus the usual end of year costs like Christmas Birthdays etc.

And you're telling me that I can make $1,000 or more by selling off the last couple of games. Yeah, I've been thinking about it.

I'll never understand why the seats they put there aren't permanent. That end of the end zone is not only an eye-sore where NO ONE even goes for the pre-game, but it's also not near as tough for opposing offenses crowd wise compared to the other end zone.

They can't roll the field in or out with those seats there, I think. It takes longer to construct them than the normal seats, which means the field has to be inside longer. That's okay occasionally, but not the norm during the full season.

That's my guess at least.

Fans are absolutely selling their tickets. I have gone to enough games to have a good idea of where the "Broker sections" are. What happened with the Vikings was fan driven.

Just win though and the demand goes away.

It wasn’t quite reminiscent of the Sun Devil Stadium days, when fans of the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders or, well, pretty much any team, would outnumber Cardinals fans, but it was a stronger visiting presence than Arizona fans have become accustomed to.

Ok i hear people say this and I was there, this isn't true

They have them set up for the bowl game and SB when it's in town... But when I was at the NFC championship game against the Eagles they were empty....

YES, you can. And because you sell three games ( most likely to opposing teams fans ) you will be fairly criticized by many who believe you are a sell-out

or by those who think they are self righteous because they buy things and don't resell them

you dont understand...what myself and many other people are saying is if you are at a point where you cannot afford your season tickets financially then dont buy them...buy single seat games. You people are selling your tickets to opposing fans and its noticeable to the point of the head coach calling you out. Buy single games when you CAN afford them and take care of your tuition/car bills/etc

Or I can be a smart consumer and find a way to get my tickets essentially for free (or even profit), and still get the experience of going to most of the games.

This has nothing to do with quality of "fandom" or not being able to afford other things in my life; it's all economics.
